USC 2010 Transfer Thread

Hey socal, I think you definitely have a chance! However, it is difficult to know exactly what USC is looking for because they look at the whole person, not just GPA or the Essay.

Socal4- You definitely look good based on the information you gave. I am a freshman looking to transfer as a sophomore into Annenberg (PUblic Relations) so I, like you, understand the uniqueness of Annenberg as far as the “categories” go. That’s really good that you have nearly every single category (with the exception of language) done. Your GPA is slightly higher than the average. What school are you coming from?

For everyone obsessively refreshing CC and the USC status page, last year the first acceptances went out at the end of April, and the SGRs arrived at the same time.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/704200-usc-transfer-decisions-2009-official-thread.html?highlight=usc+decision</a></p>

so i submitted my FAFSA and i just called my community college and they submitted my cal grant GPA verification form. is that all i need to do for cal grants? and when will i know if its submitted?

and since its past feb 2nd…am i too late for any scholarships at all?

AMorrison- thanks for your input i know that Annenberg is unpredictable when it comes down to admissions. if i get rejected will they consider my second major (sppd)?

zonazoo10- I go to two schools Crafton Hills College and San Bernardino Valley College

I believe that USC looks at your second major of choice more than say, the UC system does. If I recall correctly, an applicant last year was called by USC and asked what their second choice major would be (they didn’t specify on the app), and then they got into that program instead. I’m sure it also depends on the popularity of both majors, however.

Having a serious case of community college senoritis… Please help! haha

@mxbile131- just imagine receiving a rejection letter from USC due to ur lack of perseverance.

wow Dainese…harsh!! but motivating haha

Quick Q:

CSS Profile. When was/is it due?

Feb 1st or March 1st?

I’m doing it now…

…

…

it is due march 2nd ( this is the hard deadline)

^^Preferred filing deadline for CSS and FAFSA was Feb 2 I believe.

whats the difference with Preferred? Do they read it earlier or something?

I also just submitted the Fafsa 2 days ago.

preferred is the earliest - feb 2nd
hard deadline- march 2nd

hey i was talking to my friend who just transfer to USC this spring and she was telling me how she’s taking WRITING 140 at USC, in the articulation agreement with my school and USC it says that:

Any course below (or two courses, if indicated by “with”) fulfills the lower division writing requirement if completed after graduating from high school and before starting at USC. These courses are also listed in Part II as equivalent to WRIT 130, which is the same as the WRIT 140 course offered at USC.
ENGLISH ENGL 001B; ENGL 001C

I’ve completed English 1A, 1B, and 1C at my school (1C is the highest level of GE English at my school), so does this mean I fulfill both the WRIT 130/140 classes or do I just fulfill one of them, or do USC students have to take both a 130/140 course and I have to take 140 when I get there?

Thanks guys.

@xdzzzrawr

I have a USC transfer course plan in front of me right now and it says that for writing:

“Transfer students must take two English composition courses before transferring; the first semester alone will not meet the requirement. A second semester writing course (listed on an articulation agreement as equivalent to WRIT 130) fufills the lower divison writing requirement.”

I met with a USC advisor last summer and she says that taking ENGL 1A and ENGL 1B or ENGL 1C will fufill the writing requirement … so that’s kinda weird that your friend still needs to take WRIT 140, assuming she took either combination of classes?

The one thing I know for sure is that WRIT 340 … the upper divison, must be completed @ USC.

@sky-raptor - DAMMIT MOAR ENGRISH? ■■■

@sky-raptor thanks for the info, i was unaware that business students at Marshall had to take an upper division writing course

@ Dainese haha yea Engrish can be tough, but once you hone it, it’s an invaluable source for success.

@xdzzzrawr - on my articulation is says that WRIT 130 is equivalent to WRIT 140, so I dont know why it would differ at your school.

I applied in January. Apparently out the 424234324 people who apply, their server ate my application. After a month of constantly calling, they fixed the issue. Apparently their system assigned someone else and myself the same USC ID. Eventually most of the documents I submitted appeared after more constant badgering. The only thing not showing up online is an additional college transcript, but the office claims to have received it. “We are still indexing your file.”

Chance me please :)

GPA: 3.95, University of Houston
Major: Business (Accounting and MIS)
Extracurrics: Anything and everything
Work Experience: 30+ hours a week since 11th grade
Completed hours: 44
15 hours in progress.

The only thing I’m concerned about is the following:
I was fatally ill last semester and medically withdrew from school altogether. It shows on my transcript as a W for each course, but I explained it in my app.
