USC 2011 Transfer Thread

I’m kind of freaking out because I submitted the app with a strong essay and on time and all, but I left the GPA and the units boxes blank! I was copying and pasting from another site and I thought it had worked and moved on. I did that part a while ago and I obviously overlooked it when I was checking my app before submitting it - I’ve been totally sleep-deprived for a week now due to personal crap but that’s no excuse. I emailed the admissions office but I don’t know what to do! They’ll get my transcripts and be able to figure it out but I’m still worried I won’t be considered for admission :/

@CallofDuty84

I wouldn’t worry too much. They understand there might have been some formatting issues when you pasted your essay.

@MEGUCT

As I posted a couple pages back, USC’s statuses are very unreliable. It is not a true indication of where your application is at the current moment. I would wait a week for an update.

do you guys think it would be a good idea to upload letters of rec onto USConnect? they wont think we modified it or something right? I mean they can always match it with the one that they receive through postal mail, so its okay to upload a copy as well right?

anandrenga: I think the best idea is to upload them through USConnect. They even said on their site that it makes it easier for them to view your info if you upload it, as opposed to mailing it.

I’m pretty sure that USC recalculates everything–your credits & grades anyway, so don’t stress. Do contact them & let them know you’d be happy to do it for them though.

Would anyone be willing to review my submitted essay and give me feedback? I just want a general assessment of how strong or weak my essay is.

Also, to Marshall applicants: does your application discount the Courses and Grades form and replace it with the Marshall Supplemental Form?

@mikesmaru i would be happy to read it. PM me

Yeah, when I click on my application the indention is fine but when I click forms to download, the indention was screwed up, so I don’t know. I’m sure it won’t be a problem anyway :)

DID anyone get this status?

We have received your application, and it appears we require no additional information at this time. We will be reviewing applications through the month of March, and we expect to be able to meet our commitment to notify freshmen by April 1st. We often like to see the mid-year grades of freshman applicants. If you have not already done so, please submit your final, fall term marks when they become available. You may submit them at USConnect by clicking “mid-year grade reports”, or by visiting www.usc.edu/midyeargrades. Sometimes, in the course of our review of applications, we find that we need additional information. In such cases we will mail a written request. If you receive a request for more information, please respond promptly.

hey everyone,

it is telling me that the only document I have left to submit is my high school transcript (they’ve received all of my other documents). however, I have above 30 transferable units (I think I have exactly 30, or 32). Should I just ignore it when it tells me to send it??

edit: Woops! Apparently we need to send our high school transcript regardless! As proof that we graduated high school. :slight_smile: I was not aware of this lol And feb 1 was just the deadline for the application. The lady at USC told me that we should just get the other supplemental documents in asap.

Snizzle, I think HS Transcript is required for everyone regardless of units earned…they just want to see if you graduated I believe, something like that

P.S. when did you send in your college transcript? Mine’s taking awhile for them to log it in, not sure if there’s an issue or not

Oh yeah don’t even sweat it. You’ll be fine. I sent my transcript like 3 weeks ago, and it’s only been about a week since they updated it to say received.

Going in tomorrow to request my transcript, then Friday to pick it up and mail it :D

hey everybody! just wanted to remind you guys that the financial aid deadline is TODAY. if you need financial aid to attend USC, submit the FAFSA and CSS profile by tonight! even if you haven’t filed yet, you can use estimates from last year’s tax return! DO NOT MISS THIS DEADLINE. if you absolutely MUST wait (and you better have a good excuse), then please submit the two applications AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER TODAY. :)

and also - eesh, my USConnect portal still shows the documents I submitted last year… it’s like a wall of text. it doesn’t show any of my transcripts/SCA supplements from this year… anyone else having that problem? I’m sure it’s not an issue since I got email confirmations of the submissions, but it’s still irksome because I don’t know if my new rec letters got there. :stuck_out_tongue: then again, I don’t really mind if they reuse my previous ones because they were awesome…

I’ve had this status since I submitted it last night:
Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2011)
Thank you for submitting your online Part II application. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application.

judging by last year’s transfers, I wouldn’t expect any status changes for a few months… but when they do happen, I’ll be sure to log them for you guys in that list of USC applicants we compiled a few months ago. I’ll just have to dig that up. XD

Hey guys, last year when I applied I had 21 Units, 18 Units of A’s 3 units of B’s, and I would have 34 units done by Spring. However, I sent a letter to USC asking them to not count that B as I took it as a college class at my high school and used it for graduation credit as well. USC specifically states that college classes taken and used to complete high school requirements do not transfer. Anyways I got a Spring grade request and took another 18 units in the Spring semester ( 5 were non transferable though), so that would put me at 34 Units, and then minus the 3 units (that B) and I was at 31 Units. However, a class that was UC transferable was not USC transferable and that was a 4 unit class so that put me at 27 Units :confused: and I think I was rejected because of that.

Anyways, my question is, do you think it’s worth writing a letter to USC again asking to remove that grade? (I’m not sure they actually did last year, but I’m just assuming they did, because I called them about it and they said I didn’t need to turn in that transcript). It would technically raise my gpa from like a 3.86/3.87 to a 3.93 or something of the sort (Only received 2 B’s so far and 1 was the one from HS).

My FAFSA JUST started processing :< Great. It’s going to be considered late.

sydneyral - as long as you submitted it today you’re fine…

Yeah I would write to them again… but I don’t think they rejected you because of that. If they really want that 30 units done or whatever, they would have given you a Spring Admission. I thought you said you didn’t complete the English requirement.

You need to have Intermediate Algebra and English requirement done by Spring to even be considered.

@dreamupsided0wn

same here! it lists all of my stuff from last year but nothing from this year. called admissions and they said to just be patient and if they end up not receiving something they’ll contact us personally.

i live in socal so i expected them to receive and update it asap, but they are receiving thousands of documents so i guess we just need to be patient. i’d say wait another week, then call admissions with your usc id and see what they have in their system.

@CallofDuty84

if you took Algebra 2 in high school and passed with a grade of C or higher, it fulfills the USC math requirement for admission. thats what i was told when i went to a transfer session on campus last summer.

the css profile and the fafsa is due by 11:59 p.m right?
