<p>Thanks vinceh and nottelling, for offering some great food for thought. I am also curious to see that despite the total applicant numbers soaring (I believe about 33% since 2008), the stats makeup of the current class is so similar to the one 6 years back. </p>
<p>I’m also looking at the stats of the average applicant from 2011 and comparing them to 2012. Since the CA is credited with increasing application numbers from 37,210 (2011) to 46,104 (2012), I wondered if the additional 9000 applicants were substantively weaker than previous applicant pools. Here’s what I found in Applicant UWGPA/mid-range SAT/mid-range ACT</p>
<p>2011 applicants: 3.54/1750-2100/26-31
2012 applicants: 3.56/1750-2100/26-32</p>
<p>Almost identical, and with a slight upward trend in the latest pool. Go figure!</p>
