*******USC Class of 2020 Results/Discussion Thread**********

@2020collegebound those are some great options (and great aid)! I have a 4.0 UW GPA, lots of dual enrollment courses at my community college (my program doesn’t offer AP), 2200 SAT (770 CR 760 W 670 M), 800 SAT II MATH LVL 2. Random extracurriculars (probably not related enough with my intended major and maybe dragged me down but hey it’s my life!)…preprofessional ballet dancer, private music teacher to a dozen kids, Kids’ Choir Director, and other things that I just don’t remember at 2 am. :stuck_out_tongue: what about you?

@student1799 Yes that’s exactly what my portal looks like! I live in China so I won’t be receiving anything till next week I believe. Thank you for answering my question

i woke up from a 3hr left, logged on to my portal(totally not expecting decisions to be up), and i opened my letter totally expecting “we regret to inform you…” or “thank you for your application to xx university,” and guess what? It read “Congratulations!”
so happy after all the message history thing and being rejected by UCLA, UCB, and Stanford (okay i was expecting that) not that they were my top choices, but I definitely thought I had no chance at USC, which is equally competitive, after those decisions.
I’m now just waiting for my beautiful packet! fight on! \m/ <- (edit: i know thats not a V but it’s pretty close eh?)

Accepted for Spring Semester! 3.8 UW GPA and 1960 SAT

Rejected…but not surprising considering I applied for film production.

Scoop on TTP cause it has been asked a few more times…

For those who got TTP in their rejection letter - it is not offered to everyone. You are “rejected” this year but encouraged to apply next year as a transfer. Supposedly, you have a good chance of being accepted then if you have a good gpa, take the right classes. You can attend a CC, a state school or any 4 year university for your first year. They have more articulation agreements available from CC and state schools, but it is completely acceptable to come from a 4 year. Obviously you may attend your 4 year and decide you want to stay, and say heck with the TTP. If you decide to go for the TTP, you then apply as a transfer applicant before February 1st during freshman year (back to the common app again, weeeee). The difference - you are given the opportunity to meet with a USC advisor in June or July BEFORE freshman year to make sure you understand what is best for you to take during that first year at your other college - what looks best to increase your transfer chances. They do not go over specific courses at your college, but just an idea what fits into their GEs, and what is good to get over with and bring to USC. They do not offer this consult to “regular” transfer applicants. It may be a way for them to meet you as well, but it is more to go over stuff with you. Apparently, if you meet a 3.8 gpa first year and get the credits you need (30 I think), you are almost guaranteed a spot. Note almost. It means you may have a little edge over those applying as a transfer without TTP. But nothing is ever guaranteed in college admissions till you get your packet!

@danceologist WOW you have amazing stats!! Mine seem very insignificant compared to yours. I’m a first generation low-income students who lives in American Samoa (I think that’s a lot of hook??) my UW GPA is 3.84, I went to a super competitive high school in SoCal before moving back to American Samoa, and I’ve been getting 4.0s since second semester of sophomore year. It’s sad bc no schools down here are qualified enough to offer AP classes and our cc sucks. My ACT is 30(one sitting) and that’s the highest score on island. I taught myself how to play piano and I’ve been volunteering at a church as the pianist for 3 years and I have also worked 3 years in a row at my family business. National Honor Society member for a year, and VP this year. JSA member for a year, secretary this year. I also do tutor, I’m a translator…etc…and also won a bunch of random competitions this year…but it’s not like it matters anymore. You seem really qualified for USC to be honest but I guess the process is super random and unpredictable. Good luck to your future endeavor my friend!

@2020collegebound - all that hard work ethic and admirable character you possess (as evidenced by your supportive posts to others) will reward you in the future - you just don’t know how yet. All you have done does matter - it has made you a great human being. Part of the problem with the college process is young students like yourself have no idea just how difficult and competitive it is when you invest in the process. You can be perfect on paper, but so much is out of your control - kids with near perfect stats are rejected right and left. All you can do is keep being a good and responsible person - and the universe will smile upon you in ways tbd. I understand your disappointment, but this too shall pass. Move forward stronger from it. Good luck to you!

Seems like I’m a spring admit… Is there any chance I can switch to fall semester?

@kfromgermany how can you tell that you’re a spring admit? is your acceptance letter out?

I have no decision letter in the “admission decision” page but I have the "#IgotintoUSC hashtag thing and my portal has all the links including "“enrollment commitment deposit”, could this mean I’m in or does it just mean I don’t have my decision yet?

Rejected :’(

Now I pray for University of Michigan and Cornell

Stats:
40 IB
2200 SAT
Several good ECs, leadership
proper research internship in my field
really good essays and recs (at least I thought so) :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyone surprised by their financial aid? I thought USC met “full demonstrated need”. I got little in the way of grants but, conversely, got considerable FA–and all grants at that–from Pomona and some east coast universities. Does USC prioritize FA to those it “really” wants like NYU and BU?

@CADREAMIN Thank you for the encouragement! I am just very disappointed by myself because I know I could have made better choices or done better on standardized testings and other things that are in my control…It’s just one of those moments in life that depress me for a while even though I know for a fact that I would most likely get over it in the near future. I’ve realized that something are unpredictable and out of control to us. And I would like to extend my gratitude to you for encouraging me! I will most certainly continue to do what I love! I truly am thankful for someone as kind as you to endorse me on this forum! Good luck to you on everything you accomplish!

@TheDarkJedi Same! I applied to Cornell but I don’t have a stat as significant as yours! i just hope the 14/5% admission rate work for you and me!

It’s sure sign that you’re in! Congrats! @fkarpenko

Thanks for the reply @2020collegebound but were the “on-campus admitted student events” and “off-campus admitted student events” tabs there before? I’m afraid that the reason mine looks like that is because the decision hasn’t been made

ACCEPTED FALL 2016!

Did any of you guys receive the USC Postcard after the campus tours? My friend and I joined the same tour and I got the postcard but she didn’t get any. Does this mean something?

I got in yesterday! But the portal is completely down for me I can’t even get on the portal and I can’t see the financial aid whatever it is
