USC class of 2023 Applicants Thread

Thank you!

Thank you f2000sa…I don’t worry about him at all…I just want our country to lead the world and keep our standard of living high…

Honestly I didn’t expect to get in. The bulk of my weight was definitely my portfolio. I worked tirelessly to perfect it and I’m super proud of it. I am still experiencing major imposter syndrome, but I am so so grateful.

Man am I bummed out for DS. He worked hard and studied hard all through HS - 14 or 15 AP classes (all 4’s and 5’s), ranked 19/700, 36 ACT/1560 SAT, NMF, volunteered weekly (without being prompted by mom) since he was in 8th grade, ranked #1 Tenor in the state (choir), etc. Rejected by USC (and UCLA and Northwestern). What more can a kid do? And our HS guidance counselor told him ā€œYou can go anywhere you want!ā€ but never offered any help on the college application process. I feel like I let him down by not finding out more about how to apply to college. He’s our oldest and we just let him run with it. He’s still waiting to hear from Berkeley, but he’s given up hope. On the bright side, I made him apply to a few extra colleges besides his top choices and he did get in to Florida State, Oberlin and UNC Chapel Hill. Now to give him a few days and then start visiting these schools!

You take a semester off and then go starting in the spring

@lisalisae I feel you pain. My D also got a string of rejections. It is kind of lottery. UNC and Oberlin are great schools. Good Luck with Berkley. I am sure with his hard work, and achievement, he will succeed anywhere…!!

@calgarydancemom I remember there was a boy waitlisted and he was a dancer too. He got into Stanford but still wanted to go to USC. You may want to look at last year’s thread and try to contact his mom.

@LisaLisa24 you’re welcome For TTP… I suggest reading through the thread on that topic…

@emarie19 Newly Admitted Freshman Applicants: The USC Housing application will be open at 9am (PDT) on Wednesday, March 27th. You will receive an email by March 26th with your login information.

@infotime I have no doubt that your son will be accepted to a prestigious college, I’m rooting for him!

@WWWard Whew. That’s all I got left. :):v::heavy_check_mark:

Hey I went over 5K when did that happen?!!!

@reinawrites you’re welcome. I know you will find the right place for you… even if UCLA – just kidding – great school too. good luck

Rejected. DS had been dreaming of USC for more than a year. SAT 1580, 35 ACT. All 5s but one on APs, 4 more this year. Similar GPA. Presidential scholar nomination. NMF. Tons of community service. Heavy EC schedule. But no hook… just another bright urban kid.

@Mevalewilson USC itself states that they routinely have to reject 4K+ applicants with 4.0 unweighted GPAs and test scores in the 99th percentile. Stanford has to do the same for 8K+. Rejection is always disappointing and likely even more so for applicants with such stats, but that is the cruel reality when nearly 67K apply & only 7300 or so are able to be admitted. The goal of crafting a well-rounded and diverse freshman class means that far too many kids with stellar stats must be turned away.

And I truly feel for these applicants with near perfect stats and other great accomplishments. It must be brutal as well on the admissions officers who have to turn such great kids away.

@CADREAMIN One post at a time… lol. Congrats on passing 5000  Yes… grueling even as an interested observer. I feel for these applicants and their parents. So glad that I no longer am as invested in the outcomes as they are… but it is so hard to read the postings that reflect true disappointment.

Congrats to all those who got in… and best wishes to those now deciding among other quality options.

@CADREAMIN yes, my major would be Pre-Business Economics which is a great option! I am still waiting on more decisions, but feel lucky to have UCLA as a great option. However, the rejection from USC still stings. For those wondering, my stats were 96 UW GPA, 36 ACT, 11 APs (5s on all 6 exams taken), 800 Math II, 790 Physics, lots of leadership and extracurriculars, etc…

D in at Marshall. Perhaps the things that stood out most in her app: She graduated in three years, ranked #1, maxed out out of all AP and honors courses and went overseas to study and intern with the leading entrepreneur club of that country. No info on $.

@infotime wow… that’s so disappointing but I’m sure you have a bright future ahead. About that point about ā€œfeel goodā€ essays though… Stats & numbers can definitely evaluate logic skills but they fail at evaluating creativity, self-expression, and individuality; all vital parts of innovation. Essays, portfolios, videos, and interviews are where those skills can shine!

^ also forgot to mention but rank is top 1% at a public high school

Opened it in front of the family. Rejected. Started crying, family got angry, told me what did I expect. Still don’t feel any better 3 hours later.
Thank you guys who cheered me on, and fight on to those that got accepted.

Aw, I’m sorry @niconiconii. And I’m sorry your family didn’t react in a great way. It’s USC’s loss, I’m sure you’re an amazing candidate. There’s always transfer if you’re still going after USC next year.
