USC Class of 2024 Applicants Thread

ADMITTED
Human Biology with Pre-Med Emphasis
LA County
33 ACT, 3.91 UW GPA
Middle Eastern Female
IBDP Student
Depth and breadth in all ECs, not all concentrated on my major

Why I think I got in: I poured my heart and soul into my essays and I felt they were excellent representations of who I was, excellent LORs, I emailed my admissions counselor saying that USC was my number one after merits came out

Other acceptances: UCR (Chancellor’s), University of La Verne, CPP, Cal State Fullerton
Waitlist: UCI and UCLA
Rejects: None

This is fantastic! A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS!!! So happy for you!

@DDrizzie12 I just posted that our son was accepted into SCA’s Interactive Entertainment division. Another film school kid coming down from the great Pacfici Northwest! Here’s hoping your paths cross along the way…

@juleval thank you so much, such a nice thing to say! It really is a collaborative environment within USC, so it’s hard not to carry that over here.

Cool major btw!

Rejected and I’m still kind of in shock…

GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 5.56 weighted
SAT: 1570
SAT Math 2: 800
SAT Chemistry: 710
5 on AP Calc BC
Part of the International Baccalaureate program
National Merit Finalist
Main extracurriculars: Math Team (have won multiple trophies at competitions) and Band (heavily involved, drum major)

Accepted: Florida State and Florida (full ride to both through Benacquisto Scholarship)
Rejected: Caltech, MIT, Duke, USC
Waiting on: Stanford (probably not getting in)

I really wish I’d applied to more schools now, particularly UCLA and the other UC campuses… would’ve given me a lot more chances to get into a California school

@WWWard Since you’re the seasoned pro on this thread, I remember you posted a link about changing majors once you’re in. Did you also mention that your DS/DD is in SCA but started in another major? And one last question (asking for my DD’s dear friend) is there any way a “Spring admit” might get moved onto Fall admit - kinda like a WL?? Thx for any insight.

@WWWard : Do you know about appeal process and FA if granted admission ?
@ CADreamin: Same question above .

@CAtransplant, my daughter knows many who started out at CAMS and moved over to production. LMK if your D would like to talk to mine.

@CADREAMIN and @WWWard thank you for your calm leadership and wisdom on this bulletin board. I’ve appreciated your kindness to all who post here.

@VivienL Yes… my daughter is in SCA. She was originally admitted Undeclared, but she internally transferred into SCA, starting in her Spring semester freshman year. She applied over the summer and got in during October. Not all SCA majors can start that quickly. She chose CAMS so she could.

And yes… depending on if spaces become available, Spring admits can get moved up and start in the Fall. Every program is different. It really just depends on program openings due to study abroad or less enrollees than predicted, etc.

@Valleyprincess Appeals are possible. Last year, the amount that got in that route supposedly doubled from the year before. So, it is worth a shot. You may want to review last year’s thread on that topic…

@evergrngranite13 Glad to be of help.

@nightfury129 Congrats x 10 on the full rides though!! That is a huge, great asset and accomplishment. I get it’s hard and feel so unfair, but it will work out. My second child will prob not attend USC (though I love it) due to $, and my oldest did get the $ but picked another school anyway. In these days especially, it doesn’t really matter so much where you go, especially for undergrad and FL has very enviable desirable options. You are going to rock it!

My daughter (in Virginia)…
Denied by USC (her first choice), but admitted to UC Berkeley.
What a day…

@ElenaParent Sorry. Indeed… a crazy ride.

@CADREAMIN and @WWWard - do you know when National Merit Finalists will be notified if they are receiving the half tuition scholarship? Also, I’ve heard different things about whether or not all NMFs receive the scholarship - do you know how it will work this year?

Just waiting on the financial aid now!

@mjut02 As I understand it… all merit decisions are going to be announced tomorrow. And all admitted NMFs who name USC #1 are granted a half tuition scholarship.

But @CADREAMIN can correct me, if I am mistaken.
