I’ve never heard of that source. The school newspaper is Daily Trojan.

Maybe it’s not a reputable source.

its reputable! ik five prez/trustee finalists that all got bumped down to directors scholarship - only 6k a year

What do you mean they got bumped down? They interviewed and didn’t receive the scholarship. Others did. That is the way the process happens every year.

loll no, scholarship budget at usc got cut, so many finalists didnt receive these scholarships, we were promised that 75% of us would at least get presidential or trustee and 25% at least dean = 1/4

I think the info here is reporting the wrong information - the Trustee and Presidential meet the same figures they have in past several years.

Approx 50% will get Presidential
Approx 20% Trustee
Approx 20% other scholarships like Deans, Directors, Leadership etc

So about 450 Pres/180 Trustee and 180 Deans/Directors. Of course not all those attend so it nets out to about 300 Pres/100 Trustee/100 others. +/-

(Some students notified of smaller scholarships in Feb and not invited to interview and NMF added to Pres figures later).

No financial woes in terms of these scholarships, probably misconstruing the following info:

USC has reduced scholarships for National Merit Finalists from half tuition to $20,000 after research showed 75% of students getting the NMF scholarship didn’t have financial need. Effective with Fall 2025 class.

I’m guessing that’s what has people erroneously/overstating cuts to merit aid. Things could change of course, but no indications the big scholarships are in jeopardy.

My daughter too. Unbelievable what they did to these kids. Given that Associates and Deans were for 20k and 17k, given immediately at EA offer, you would think Trustee/Presidential would get a min of $20k after being invited for interviews. $6000!!! Are you kidding me?! The UC’s gave her $5000 for Regents! What a slap in the face! She really wanted to go there!

USC FAST asked for our 2024 taxes. After the CSS Profile, FAFSA, Veritax, Additional schedules uploaded etc.

Given they are supposed to base financial aid on 2023, is this ok? Were they looking to see if our situation got worse or better? Is this even legal?

Wow. Half scholarship to $20k in the blink of an eye. Should’ve graduated a year earlier.

USC did say scholarships as a whole will be at a more “modest” level in 2025 (whatever that means), and that they’re reducing the number of scholarships they give in general. That much is confirmed, via a PR statement made to that Morning Trojan newspaper.

Slight sidetrack, but for admitted students with national merit finalist status, how do we see our scholarship/when does it get awarded? I recently changed my first choice in the NMSQT portal, and waiting for confirmation from USC of the scholarship.

frr, it’s so humiliating, I thought I failed the interview but found out MOST (at least 75%) of us get dropped to this 6000 scholarship, USC is so mean for this! Im so not going to USC anymore

USC will give you it by default. As long as you’re finalist and list USC as first choice, you’re good. They typically send the “confirmation” later in the cycle, but it’s guaranteed.
