USC Class of 2029 — Regular & Early Action Decisions

Their CDS lists 3.4% of students with a high school GPA between 3.25 and 3.49, so I’d have a hard time believing they find B+ students their sweet spot at any school

Anyone have any thoughts on when USC will be releasing scholarship decision emails today?

Love the box! We still have ours in each of their keepsakes tub. Suppose they are still white with the USC crest thingy on front?

Congrats! :v: :v: :v:

My son was deferred in the Early Round. He applied communications as first choice major and business as second. He would be thrilled to go to USC as either of these majors (as opposed to some other schools where he declined to list a second choice major). For those who have been through this before, are they really likely to consider you for either major or if you’re not a good fit for your first choice major, are you out of luck?

Yes! Same! A small pennant, poster, stickers and two letters. Waiting on merit email this afternoon :crossed_fingers:

Does anyone have any idea on when emails are going out?

My daughter hasn’t received anything yet. We’ll keep an eye out!

In years past it was late afternoon. I saw somewhere 5 pm PST but not sure if that’s accurate.

Is it true that most (everyone?) that gets to the interview stage gets some merit and the interview process is to differentiate the awards?

Son just got merit letter. Got 5k cardinal and gold. Didn’t qualify for next stage. Can get honors housing.

Nearly 42,000 students applied in Early Action to be considered for USC Merit Scholarships. I am sorry to say that you were not selected for further consideration for the Trustee or Presidential scholarships, but the Cardinal and Gold Award is a selective award offered to less than 1% of candidates.

Did anyone get the Deans? (1/4 tuition). Curious if they gave them out or are saving them for other times like after interviews and in March. The distribution of those seem to have varied each year.

Dean’s Scholarship is probably “consolation” prize for those who do not get the Trustee or Presidential Scholarships.

Yes, they have a Director’s that is 2 or 4K (I forget) that they also give out as consolation prize. Over the years it seems Dean’s are given in varying amounts in March - pure speculation - but it seemed the quantity was maybe determined by how much they had left in their scholarship bucket since it varied how many and when each year.

In your years of watching admissions and scholarships have you ever seen a Thornton student get one of the big scholarships? Since they can’t apply EA and would need an interview, I’m wondering if that’s even a possibility.

Not seen a Thornton applicant get the Trustee-Presidential-Deans, though not to say it has never occurred. But Thornton does give out its own merit/talent scholarships. My middle child had the NMF scholarship and a University scholarship to USC, then Thornton offered him another $10,000 a year when he was admitted. Of course, he ended up being my only child who did not attend USC.

Wow, what a great offer! How long ago was that? I thought I heard the Dean of Thornton say that there were no music scholarships. But I hope I’m wrong!

did anyone get the scholarship even if Financial Aid was not requested?

2018, so yes could have changed.
