USC reputation

This topic comes up here often and you can search for old threads if you want lots of opinions. But in the last few years (arguably since the tenure of the new president, Steven Sample in 1991), USC has gained a highly regarded reputation for its strong academics, high rankings, and is definitely a solid choice for many top students. You can see this from the latest Freshman profile: Fall admits mean GPA 3.8 UNWEIGHTED, middle SAT 2095.

One reason why you hear so much about USC and why so many show their support with t-shirts when they travel is because USC has a lot of pride and students like to show it. That, in return, causes lots of attention, talk, and sometimes criticism.
