@lgh123 How long was your interview?
@mermaidluvcorgis around 40 minutes
Iāve heard nothing about interviews so Iām just assuming nothing for me lol
I had an interview last Friday. He had said in the email that it would only take 15-20 minutes, but it ended up taking nearly an hour and a half! He only asked me like three or four specific questions about me/my application. The rest was just some really good conversation about my love of USC & passion for filmmaking! Hope that helps
Plus, I think he said that the committee has to make all decisions by the end of the next two weeks. Plus, the person I was interviewed by was the person on the committee who was tasked with reading my application. He just had some follow up questions.
Ya I had my interview last week too
Iām actually sad that I most likely wonāt get an interview. Interviews are my strong point and I think it would make up for my weak why usc
same!! I was really hoping to get one, thought an interview would help me better show my personality (and obsession with USC lol) Oh well, Iāll be transferring in next year if it doesnāt work out this fall, so itāll be ok in the end
does anyone know how many people are admitted to SCA?
All I know is that film production is about 60 people and I think SCA is close to around 250 people?
when we toured this past summer and listened to their admissions presentation at SCA, I wrote down the following numbers from Fall 2019⦠1900 applied to production and they admitted 54, also admitted 26 for Screenwriting and 15 for IMGD⦠and around 150 total for the SCA. Those were the only numbers I noted.
I believe those numbers are the final class sizes of last year - I have a friend at SCA who is in the screenwriting program - she said there are about 26 in her class. From previous years, the amount of people accepted who have then decided to attend USC SCA was about half, so they probably admit about double for each of those numbers. Could be wrong though.
^^^No wonder Spielberg couldnāt get in (3 times)!
He did pretty good for himself regardless ?
I believe that you are correct in terms of a likely yield rate for SCA of circa 50%. And those #s above sound accurate based on what I have heard too for actual #s enrolled for each major. So they will likely admit double for each category.
SCA has never published such #s as best I can tell. Absent an insider spilling the info, all that any of us can go on is speculation and the #s overheard or talked about over the years. Overall, the SCA admit rate is likely in the 1-6% range this cycle⦠varying by program⦠with writing and IMGD likely being in that 1-2% range⦠production likely in the 2-4% range, animation and MAP likely in that 3-5% range and CAMS likely in that 5-6% range.
If anyone out there discovers the exact #s, please feel free to correct me or update these percentages. This also reflects the inverse in terms of #s admitted for each program as best I understand it⦠with more CAMS admits and writing and IMGD admitting the fewest.
A few years ago⦠it was posted on CC that SCA Admissions aimed for class sizes (which means they admitted likely double these #s to allow for yield) of 75 Cinema and Media Studies, 50 production, 12 IMGD, 15 Screenwriting, and 24 animation majors. That was before MAP was an option. Back then⦠Production was reported to be 4-6% admitted & IMGD was 2%. But more are applying these days⦠thus my downward speculation in terms of percentages. For example⦠when these percentages were quoted, the overall USC admit rate was around 17%. It is now 11%.
Another option is being admitted Undeclared to USC but denied this round by SCA. That happened to my younger daughter. She then internally transferred to SCA, starting with her freshman spring semester. As stated above, Spielberg tried and failed three times to gain admission. Bryan Singer applied, but was denied by USC overall. He later transferred in to USC, but was denied again by SCA. He then internally transferred into SCA while already at USC. So persistence can be rewarded.
We are now in March. The decisions will likely be revealed the week of the 23rd. Good luck to all of this yearās applicantsā¦
@elistaubsicle which prof interviewed you? I wonder if Itās the same one.
^^^ I would direct message the answer, as professors may not want their names mentioned on this type of anonymous forum.
Yes, while decisions are being made, I would be careful of posting any details that would identify you or the professor. I have seen students post great detail about their interview, while decisions are still in process - not a good idea.
In the thread from last year, people knew when acceptances were going to be mailed. Anyone know about his year? Will decisions be mailed 3/19 and posted on the portal 3/23? Thanks!
I thought it was all April 1st?! Is it really sooner?! JEEZ AHH
I read in another thread that the portal is expected to open 3/24. That doesnāt mean itās true, but itās worth mentioning.
I applied for the John Wells div. for Writing for Screen/TV and Iām anxiously awaiting the decision.
