Fuzzybunny,
If you do become a National Merit Scholar you do not just receive " money". You receive half tuition for the entire four years at SC. This is providing you name SC as your first choice university (can be done in April), maintain a 3.0 GPA and take a required number of units each semester. In addition, you will receive $1,000 per year from the NMFoundation.

Have you applied for financial aid? IF SC determines you qualify for aid in addition to the scholarship funds you will also be receiving aid each term.

Once at SC there are many, many scholarships available for continuing students. These are competitive, but if you are an outstanding student you may be the recipient of another scholarship as you progress through your major.
