Useful "hacks" for home chores etc.

If you have a pair of new over-dyed black or dark jeans, and you have something else (cotton) of similar color that is looking a bit faded, wash the two together. The excess dye from the brand new jeans will re-dye the faded item.

I had a black cotton T shirt that I liked that had become a little faded. Washed it with with new black jeans (on a gentler cycle) and voila.

this can also work with a new red cotton item and a faded red cotton item (similar red is important)

I used to have trouble with mean squirrels digging up and flinging about newly planted veggie plants. I started surrounding each one with about 3 rocks roughly the size of plums. The digging stopped and the rocks likely held heat and reradiated it back at night which benefits heat lovers like tomatoes and basil when you first plant them in spring.

My dogs a big shedders and although I don’t have many rugs, their fur gets in bedded in my braided rugs and also on the upholstery . Vacuuming doesn’t get it all up , so I use a damp sponge with a little all purpose mild cleaner to wipe it up before vacuuming .

I pour some baking soda and vinegar into clogged drains. After a while I run the hot water and the drains clears up.

Anyone have a “useful hack” for cleaning fabric on outdoor furniture? Something like a outdoor cushion. I have a custom made bench in my garden area that has an outdoor fabric on it that needs cleaning. Soap and water isn’t cutting it!
