Take a break? Like… leave school for a semester?.. Well… You CAN. It’s not like they chain you to the desk or anything. But PharmD is a very tough and competitive program and if you left, I personally think there’s a good chance they’d remove you from the program because you clearly don’t want it as badly as other people do who got out of classes but stayed anyway.

If you’re not PharmD, then sure you can leave but you sometimes need a good reason depending on how long you’ll be gone. People skip out on summer classes all the time and no one cares, but it might be different for a full fall or spring semester. Also if you took off fall soph year, you can’t do co-op in the spring/summer1. Plus, taking off a full semester could hurt your progression, since often classes are only offered one or two times a year- so you’d have to make sure you can just take them the following semester because it’s not for certain you can. I don’t see the point in doing it at all unless you have a medical or family emergency. If you really want time off, skip out on a summer session (if you have room in your schedule), or graduate a semester early.

But I’m pretty sure PharmD won’t let you anyway. Call them and ask, but I have NEVER heard of someone doing that except for extreme medical reasons.
