USNA I-Day Countdown

Weather . com says 91 and sunny. As I write this it’s86 in Atlanta and only 74 in Annapolis. Give me MD anytime over Ga. summers. The humidity combined with the temp. should help the kids from the south adjust a little easier.

It’s beautiful here today, 83 degrees but low humidity. Remember there’s usually a nice breeze coming off the water in Annapolis which helps. There should be concession stands scattered around the Yard selling drinks on I-Day. Bring a hat!

BZ, sorta kinda. Will be in Charleston tomorrow then McCleansville on Saturday for the KP welcome aboard picnic then Sunday, we’re going out of the country (Under a palm tree & under the water hunting lobsters). Maybe I like this empty nest thing after all… Will miss son on the USNS Comfort by one day in one of our locations. My dumb luck. :(

Sounds like my kinda vacation! Have a blast!
We have a few more years before the “empty nest” kicks in - I’m not looking forward to it, but I’m sure we’ll enjoy it when it comes…

Sorry about your timing w/ The Comfort - similar thing w/ the son’s gf: He was in Newport for a week or so w/ VOST & the day they sailed for Bermuda, she & her family arrived in Newport for a wedding. What are the odds! (I think “near misses” are worse than “not even close”).

Enjoy your trip! We’ll be here when you get back!

WELCOME BLACKHAWK! So happy to have a another parent member from Class of 2011 and GEORGIA!

It’s a pleasure to be aboard. I look forward to many days of blogging, texting, whatever we call this  the countdown clock says 5 days, 6 hours , 52 min. until you know what.

Congratulations to the new class of 2011 and to you parents! It seems like yesterday that we sent our son off for Plebe Summer. He is now a newly commissioned Ensign and headed off now to his new adventure - Hawaii!!

He LOVED every day at the Academy. Loved Plebe Summer, and the entire fours years there. He left this week to spend a few extra days back in Annapolis…just to see his buddies again before he leaves.

We parents are also returning for a last weekend together. You will become “family” over these next four years. Your mids as well as you parents will make life-long friendships. There is no place like the US Naval Academey.

I wish we could do this all over again!!
Go Navy, Beat Army!

5 Days my friends! 5 Days! Can you believe it!!

Sophiehorse … HAWAII! That Lucky Guy! Congrats on Graduation. I know you are proud!

and now we are at the final 4 people! :(

Lots to do and havent seen Lola in 2 days! HA HA Good Ole mom is packing everyone’s bags.

Let’s do this! I am ready!

The waiting around to leave for the airport is killing me. Oh yeah, 3 days…19 hrs… 25 min’s…

Hi to all the new plebe parents- it has been awhile since I have posted. Reading through the posts has broought back so many memories. I just got back from Annpolis this weekend and brought my son home. I wanted to included a few bits of advice for those of you visiting for the first time. Due to the increased beach traffic around the area- mapquest alternative routes back and forth from where you are staying to the Academy. Having gone there so much this year, I know the area. The freeway ( 50 E) can get crazy at times, but there are many many different ways to get there. I tutored my son and some of the football players this week as they prepared for a summer school final- and helped him take down his room. Also this is something I have learned this year. At least two of the airlines out of BWI offer military rates which have saved me tons of money over the past year when my son came home for a quick weekend or a long extended stay. You have to make the reservations over the phone- but they are counted as active military due to the Naval Academy. Check out the discount when you are looking for airfare. Good luck to all of you- the year goes fast- my son has grown up this year and finally appreciates me. Also check out the mid store- I go there and purchase all my shampoo and hair products for months at a time. I carry my Fona pass and midstore card at all times- you can even use the midstore card online for purchases during the year. Hope all goes well- the weather this week was wonderful with only a little rainstorm and reasonable temps. The people in Annapolis are friendly and helpful- so enjoy yur time there.

Thank you for your words of wisdom and sage advice. I feel like I’m at the deep end of the pool, getting ready to jump and someone snuck off with my swimmy wings.

OK! this is it… the final day of my countdown for I-Day from 124 days ago. We are headed out to Annapolis. Good Luck and God’s Blessings to you all!

The countdown now stands at 3 day and I leave it to you old timers to take us down to the big day!

Good luck everyone…it’s going to be a hot day, so be prepared. The weather man here just popped up the extended forecast and Wed. the only day without a little thundercloud on it, but it’s going to 93 degrees and humid.

^^^pack an umbrella-- it helps to keep the sun off!

(Taking on the enormous responsibility of maintaining the countdown…)

I-Day minus 2 days! Wow! I can remember what a wreck I was with only 2 days left, and I wasn’t even the one being inducted! Happy thoughts and best wishes, Fair winds and following seas, Congratulations and, well, I hope that families are enjoying their time together. I also hope that Kriegs is right there when the countdown hits 0!

:) Who’s got it for tomorrow!? Us old-timers gotta step up!

I’ll do it…momof1…we 08 parents will pick up the ball.

Can you believe that it’s been three years for our Mids???

No way. My mid kept counting down the days until commissioning until he left for Leatherneck on Saturday. Wow. I remember walking the 1.5 miles to the mailbox twice a day during Plebe summer. Once to get the mail, and another to send out a letter for the next day. It helped to keep me sane. I wonder what the '11 parents will find to do. Did you have any rituals, atrmom, or are you normal? ;)

far from it…since we live relatively close to Annapolis, my daughter and I would go up to USNA every Friday of Plebe Summer just to watch my son march in the plebe parade. Once we figured out where his company stood on Worden, we’d plop ourselves in the stands and just watch. It was helpful to be able to just get a visual on Boy even though we couldn’t talk to him. I also sent a letter everyday with some kind of inspirational quote and I won’t even tell you how many hours I spent on the Thorton web site playing Where’s Waldo!!! Not too normal!

I hope your son enjoys Leatherneck…my son’s roommate is there this session too. My boy’s in Annapolis doing IFS…

And then for us 2010 parents add the multitude of hours spent going through the two Dropshots sites! It did add for entertainment at work, by mid-afternoon everyone wanted to see if there were any “outtakes” for the day and then came the discussions… is it him?
