I think the latest numbers had UF at 8% (vs 21% at UT), but it does feel like it’s a bit more, due to the large number of Asian grad students on campus. If this is a concern (and I can understand why it would be), you may want to google UF Asian clubs, etc, and check them out.
I wasn’t implying that UF was 'better" than Rice (a far more expensive, private school), only that the schools that generate large number of applicants (and Rice is one of those schools, as is the 30 to 40 in the AAMC listing), tend to be supportive of pre-med students. In this case, my point was UT-Austin and UF are good choices for Pre-med.
I don’t think that’s how medical school admissions works, especially when you consider they are applying to med schools across the country, not just UT or UF.
Anyway, in this case, we’re talking about 300 Asian applicants from UT-Austin, vs 180 at UF. Not that much of a difference.
Environment is really based on your personal preference, but perhaps you can explain why the academics is better?
That’s a good point. How do you become eligible to apply as a Texas resident? Do you have to become a resident or is it by completing your undergraduate degree, in-state? I think the most common method to earn in-state residency is by owning residential real estate and showing proof of primary residence in Texas for 1 year.
