UTI caused terrible dementia

@MaineLonghorn In addition to the D-Mannose, you could also try taking capsules of acidophilus (probiotic) as a vaginal suppository on a regular basis (per the recommendation of one of my healthcare practitioners). Both very helpful as our hormone levels change (& pH) with menopause.

I found D-Mannose worked like a charm for my mother, who was prone to urinary infections that made her very confused. After I started her on it, no more infections. You can get it in capsule form or powder form. It’s a lot cheaper on Amazon than in your local health food store. I bought the capsules for her (and loaded them into the MedReady device along with her other meds) but use the powder for myself, if I think a UTI is threatening.

D-Mannose is a sugar that is almost entirely excreted, so it doesn’t raise blood sugar. E. coli bacteria have a strong affinity for it-- they cling to it, in preference even to the bladder wall. If one takes it before bedtime, it has time to sit in the bladder “collecting” E. coli bacteria, and when one urinates in the morning the bacteria are voided along with the D-Mannose they are clinging to.

Studies have been done showing its efficacy. Here is one:
