Like Nate Turner, O.J.Simpson, Casey Anthony and the Bundy Brothers were acquitted as well. It follows them. What is your point?
@HarvestMoon1 you go right ahead and jump on that old bandwagon…you are well within you right to do so. The point is NATE TURNER was not found guilty of rape. We all love the justice system when the verdict we want is rendered but when it’s not…then the jury got it wrong.
What bandwagon are you referring to? My point is that no one controls public opinion. People get acquitted all the time yet because of the publicity of the case, it continues to plague them. Nate Turner is no different – he has no magic wand to keep people from thinking what they want to think.
I have no opinion either way on Nate Turner – I did not follow the case.
@HarvestMoon1 Thank you so very much for making my point. Good talk
Still not sure what point you were trying to make. But glad I could help you out I guess.
@HarvestMoon1
“no one controls public opinion. People get acquitted all the time yet because of the publicity of the case, it continues to plague them.”
You’ve made an excellent point…and those who are accused of rape and subsequently found innocent of the allegation will be “plagued” by this forever. It’s so unfortunate.
Agreed, but why single out just sexual assault? It happens with every criminal case that gets a lot of publicity.
@HarvestMoon1 I singled out sexual assault because that’s the topic of discussion.
OK fair enough. But I think it is fair to point out that the same problem exists with a lot of acquittals in criminal trials. Not just Nate Turner and others acquitted of sexual assault.
@HarvestMoon1 I didn’t lump the other cases into the discussion…you did. You and I are on the same page. We agree. The mistake you made was assuming that I believe Nate, Casey, OJ and the Bundy’s are innocent. I simply stated that like Nate this will follow UVA, Dean Eramo and the fraternity for ever.
I actually did not assume that you thought they were innocent as you never addressed that issue.
We have seen time and time again that when there is an acquittal in a very public trial, some people will accept it and others won’t. You just seemed particularly angry about the allegations being brought up again after Nate Turner was acquitted. I was simply pointing out that the same thing happened to OJ Simpson, Casey Anthony and many others. It will happen with the Bundy Brothers as well.
This is part of human nature that is unlikely to change. But it happens in just about every high profile case whether it is sexual assault, murder or any other crime.
@HarvestMoon1 I didn’t address it because it wasn’t the topic of discussion. At any rate…we’ve now officially killed a dead horse. So how 'bout those Cubs!!! Wait! Are you an Indians fan!!!
Cubs " All the Way!" as Eddie Vedder says.
“And with that I bid you adieu”
Um, he was found not guilty, not innocent. His friend, who co-wrote the movie, was initially found guilty. I believe the trials were separate.
From what I have read about the movie, it depicts one or more rapes, but more from the POV of the male partner of the wronged woman, not of the woman. This review is only one that points out something along those lines: http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/movies/sc-birth-of-nation-mov-rev-1003-20161006-column.html
I think it is likely that Parker and his friend took advantage of an intoxicated woman, that he and many others considered such women to be “fair game” at the time, and that he continues to view women as less important than men. For that reason I am personally reluctant to put money in his pocket.
I accept the verdict of the jury in terms of the legal consequences, but I don’t have to agree with it. Just as I think that both the Rodney King and OJ Simpson juries were wrong.
I agree that rape allegations are serious and follow men, whether justified or not.
