<p>Nonetheless, there are real concerns with accepting high school students into medical school, not the least of which are attrition and poor performance in med school.</p>

<p>HPME is unabashed in noting that is BS/MD students perform worse than its regular med students:</p>

The school would like to reduce the program to 20 students per year, with 12 to 15 admitted in the standard manner as freshmen and 5 to 8 admitted as sophomores. This will help address some deficiencies related to academic performance of some HPME students and improve the overall diversity of the medical school class, since few minorities enter on this pathway.

<p>Throw in the fact last year’s med school class had the strongest stats ever, it’s not surprising that med schools are choosing to admit less from the HS pool and more from the college pool.</p>
