Don’t worry…be happy…you got a great house and you’ll have a great time.

Plus, you might see some places that LOOK like bargains but they’re really rat holes that don’t get any repeat renters.

What is the best site for airfare bargains to London? DD is doing a study abroad and I need to follow the fares for a few weeks and find a good one

We rented a house for summer vacation directly from the owner – and I don’t think I would do it again. She was totally flipped out about the changeover from week to week and how to get the house cleaned for the next vacationer. It felt to me that she called almost every day to make sure everything was OK at her house – that we’d closed the windows or opened the windows or something.

And even though we paid a hefty cleaning fee, on top of a hefty weekly rental, she wanted us to not only wash and dry all the sheets, but remake all the beds, wash and dry and fold all the towels, and run and empty the dishwasher … and be out by 10 am. It was not a lot of fun. I refused to go back a second year – although we loved the town and the beach, we opted for a condo with less space but more of a vacation feel.

We have a family coastal home. It is an internal family debate if we should rent the house out. For a few friends we have just nominally rented the house out, which doesn’t pay for our expenses. Of couse we want to best experience for our friends, and expect that for the price that they compensate us, they need to make the house habitable for next family.

If we raised the cost of use to cover our expenses, the cost would be unattractive. In order make the house price attractive, we really need to rent more often and at a higher price. Kinda Catch-22.
