Vacuuming carpeted stairs (two long-haired cats on premises)

Get really good carpet and don’t wear shoes in the house. There will be no gross stuff when you finally pull it up.

I’ve tried to get the fam on board with that idea^. They haven’t been cooperative. My H thinks I nag the kids too mush as it is (like I shouldn’t insist they clean up after themselves after they make a kitchen mess?). It’s a family dynamic that’s not going to change so I pick my battles. He does a lot of the housework so I can’t really complain (He cleans up after them - 'cause I’m not going to do it).

Plus three of us have legitimate allergy/eczema problems so I think the hard flooring is the best option for us. If I ever get a dream home, it’s going to be single level and all hard floors. No stairs and no carpets.

We have hardwood stairs…but prefer a runner. It’s not as noisy…and its way more comfortable if you happen to slip.

Our carpet is about 23 years old…vacuumed often…and looks pretty good overall.

The stick Shark Rocket is easy for me to maneuver on the stairs…no canister or long vacuum hose. And really…it’s amazing how powerful it is.

I might have to try the Shark Rocket, even though we do have hardwood stairs. I still have to vacuum dust bunnies after I mop them into a big pile and also the carpeting we still have in a few of our rooms. I love our full sized Dyson for its power, but it IS way too heavy, and I’m not getting any younger.

How big is the receptacle? I swear, I can fill up 3/4’s of the full sized Dyson with dog hair just vacuuming our family room.

Nevermind - I used my friend Google and saw that it had great reviews which mentioned that the maneuverability makes up for having to empty the bin out a little more frequently. I had to laugh at this review: “…its suction is great, could pull your face off and never had a vacuum clean carpeting better.”

Not sure if that’s a good thing or not, lol.

The Shark Rocket receptacle isn’t all that huge…but it is very easy to empty.

I have one cat, wood floors, but no problem with dust bunnies. Not sure why. We do have a housecleaning service, but only every other Monday.

Between accidents occurring with both puppies and elderly dogs, taking off shoes is not my biggest problem with carpeting…
