it says ur school sucks

SATs aren’t everything…^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Your school probably just doesn’t prepare you for the SAT as well as others. For instance, my school’s valedictorian received a 1720 on his SAT. The highest score this year is a 1850 by our salutatorian. Most academic honors students get around a 1500. Even though most of us don’t get high scores, most still do very well in college, so even if you get into a state school remember: you’re not a failure. You’ll do well.

It’s funny because the only time someone from our school got into a “good” school (on CC standards) is because he can play basketball. He went to UNC his older brother went to Notre Dame.

so there is hope! so is this a more common situation than once thought?

LOL there’s a junior at my school with more or less perfect grades, she’s skipping up a year but doesn’t count in our rankings, if she did she’d probably be valedictorian–anyway, she got like a 25 on her ACT. Go figure.
Our actual val has a 1370/2140 I think. She is very intelligent though.
Sal has 1430/2230 or s/t.

haha so then do you think colleges will generally be impressed with the valedictorian status- and do you think it will still offset the SAT score a little. I am pretty sure my app is going to be one of those one’s that will be deliberated on harshly…

is 4.43 ur weighted g.p.a?

yes 4.43 is the weighted GPA

now my school is something worry about Lol, senior class is 650 kids val has 1850, 1 new kid has a 2200, except for him next ont he list is 1850 then 1 or 2 1800’s and then a few more 1700’s below that is everyone else.

so does it look really bad or are they going to be ok with the fact i work hard

Wow…where do you go?

what do you mean?

No I meant it for flamingspirit, sorry for confusion

oh, haha no worries! that sounds like a crazy situation though

You can look at it various ways.

Either you’re a very hard consistent worker who worked diligently to achieve valedictorian status but is not a natural genious.

You may be a very hard worker who does not do well on SAT-like exams.

Or, your school is not that challenging. So, while you may be a better worker/more intelligent than your classmates, gaining valedictorian status at your school is not that difficult thus overstating the academic ability of its students which will then become apparent when placed in a broader context.

bret i would say dont stress it, its assumed if ur number 1 that u obiviously learned all the material better than others in ur school, now if your school is doing something wrong it doesnt make sense for them to hold it against u, i mean you will not likely get into an ivy, but i mean thats why some schools have reputations where noone gets into ivy from there.

Also keep in mind that u can still get into good schools that might give aid to u just because u were ranked 1

ok do u know ur unweighted g.p.a.?

Rest assured that your ranking, GPA, and scores will get you into a good university. Like a I said before, look for a good academic fit and money may follow.

i applied early action to university of denver, and santa clara university.

i applied to UCLA, UC Berkeley, and UC Santa Cruz.

i am a track recruit at NYU. I am applying to BC, Providence, Occidental, USC, Connecticut College, Whitman, and possible Cornell? I don’t even know if should apply there, but I don’t know.

Give it a shot!

It won’t hurt to try!
