Valuables in a dorm room

As far as cameras, cellphones, iPods and other small electronics (the ones that are probably the most likely to be stolen because of ease) I just kept them in a pocket or in a drawer and never had a problem. Most laptops have a slot for a laptop lock that you can loop around your bed frame; a tad annoying to take on and off and the lock would be cut pretty easily by some bolt cutters, but it’s one preventative measure you can take.

The pretty vast majority of stuff that gets stolen is taken out of rooms where the door was left unlocked while both people were either out of the room or stolen. So ALWAYS. ALWAYS ALWAYS. Lock your door when you’re gone. Bathroom, shower, dinner, lounge, some other guys room for a couple minutes, lock your door.

My freshman year my roommate had a really big lockbox that we used as a TV stand. He put his checkbook and other papers in there, so that’s an idea. As far as the little stuff goes, though, if you’re intelligent about keeping your door locked and who you let in there even when you’re there it shouldn’t bea problem.
