Congrats! Our kid was deferred and got accepted today as well. Does anyone know when do they post the financial info?

Congrats to those of you who got in! Did the acceptance notices provide any stats on number of applications received and students admitted?

I currently have a child at Vanderbilt. The other was denied yesterday. (Not upset or surprised: very different kid, majors, did not ED, etc.) I think there is a decent amount of movement on the Vandy waitlist just because many will choose Ivies over it–even with the amazing merit and need-based aid offered by Vandy.

All that being said, if your heart is set on Vandy and you were rejected or don’t get in off the waitlist, it is my understanding that it is significantly easier to get in as a transfer. Just something to keep in mind—the door is not necessarily closed to you forever.

Vanderbilt does admit about 150-200 off the WL typically - however they WL an excessive number of qualified applicants like 7k
The odds are not good
But they do consider Demonstrated interest for the WL so if you would go if admitted
Then by all means
Convey that to them
Directly soon and often
And fall in love and commit elsewhere bc no WL movement until after may 1

So this straight rejection is really bad then. not much hope for today or monday then.

Son waitlisted. Peabody School. He was expected to be rejected so this was a nice surprise. Will accept his spot on the wait list but also getting more excited about the acceptances he has.

Good luck to everyone.

So as far as “demonstrated interest”
presumably they are smart people and would know that everyone on the waitlist will have secured a spot somewhere else. What would be the point of a “I love Vandy and am 100% committed” letter? I would imagine they have simply ranked the people on the wait list and will be going down that list, no?

yes, I think they expect folks to commit elsewhere because to not do that would be foolish. But that doesn’t mean students still wouldn’t prefer Vandy over where they put down a deposit.

And if they have an open spot and there are two students on the waitlist with very similar profiles but one sent in a letter demonstrating continued interest and the other didn’t, don’t you think that first student would be more appealing to the school? I am having my student send a short email. I figure it cannot hurt.

The waitlist is not ranked - Vanderbilt is building a class with specific attributes and that meets institutional priorities, so if they don’t have enough students with X attributes or for Y school/major, they will go to the WL and select candidates that meet that need. Also, Vanderbilt considers demonstrated interest when selecting students from the waitlist - they want to yield a class of 1600 at this point, and plan on using the WL every year to do that. Send in a LOCI that clearly articulates what you would add to their community, if it is TRUE tell them you would come if accepted, deposit by 5/1 at your favorite among your acceptances, and hope for the best. Good luck!
