Totally false on the Franklin rumor.

I’m so sad that this has happened to yet another young woman. One would hope somebody would intervene in these things.

That said, Vanderbilt could not be handling this with more integrity. The fact that they contacted outside law enforcement immediately puts them light years ahead of their peers. I only hope other institutions take notes.

According to the New York Times, Vanderbilt already had an agreement with Nashville police that serious crimes would be handled by the city. I’m not sure if other schools have this type of arrangement.

This is immaterial. All serious crimes should be brought to those who have no vested interest in protecting the reputation of the institution.

The irony is that this will most likely help the schools reputation.

Well, the school did nothing wrong. It’s the alleged actions of a few people.

Yes. Exactly. For once the school did nothing to cover up the behavior of its athletes.

As we know, this is all too rare and should be held up for the example it should be.

How common is it to have security cameras in dorms? My kids schools don’t have that.

MOWC- the article Northernbadger posted clearly gives clues to the victims identity.

I have to say that I am disgusted by Franklin’s remark about the wives of assistant coaches in the first article.

Even if he was “joking.”

But yes, it is good to see a university handling this kind of thing well.

Update:

http://www.tennessean.com/article/20131016/NEWS/310160172/Trial-set-two-Vanderbilt-rape-case?nclick_check=1

Looks like 2 of the accused MAY be cutting a deal and agreeing to testify against Brandenburg. (Watch video of defense counsel.) I am NOT saying that they have done so. It’s just that their cases were severed.

Also seems as if the partially nude, passed out woman was put in the hallway for a while and that’s what the video cameras showed.

Again, Vanderbilt deserves praise. They led on this matter. The didn’t follow or just huddle in a circle, or worse…did nothing.

Compare Vandy’s responsible conduct to that of another big time college football university…U of Alabama-Birmingham, although UAB ranks well below the power schools in football. A few years ago UAB ballplayers abused a very young girl and the administration sort of pooh poohed it and pointed fingers at the victim.

Well I don’t think schools think they can get away with that kind of thing, anymore, anyway. But I think vandy sets a good example of one way to approach the campus rape issue.
