Vandy for a business hopeful?

Your teacher may have been friends with a very qualified bunch of people, but that’s not the norm. Vandy alums get jobs at all of these places, but not everyone who wants them gets them. If you’re qualified these are possible.

I’m not trying to scare you, but I don’t think it’s reasonable to come to Vanderbilt and think everyone has a bulge bracket IB analyst position offer in hand when they graduate. My class is graduating at a time when those jobs are not very plentiful due to the economy, but I don’t think that it is ever the case where there are tons of kids going to white shoe firms.

You’ll have great opportunities coming from Vandy. Many investment banks and management consulting firms interview here and hire them. Some choose not to interview here, but that doesn’t preclude you from working at Blackstone, Lazard, etc. You just have to work harder for those places.

I can’t definitively say that Vanderbilt is heavily recruited, because the answer is relative. For the GS, MS, McK type of jobs, recruiting is better than it would be at UT Knoxville, but worse than Wharton.

I’m an econ major and can answer questions about the program. I was prelaw and was not very interested in i-banking, so I’m not the most knowledgeable person on the subject. I have friends who are interest in that line of work, so I’m a little familiar with it.
