Vandy Girls??

What are the girls like at Vandy? To answer that, you must learn the story what a VandyGirl is.

A VandyGirl is usually Southern, or from Texas or New York. She has wealthy parents who probably bought her a Fendi or Prada hand-bag when she turned 13 and a BMW 330i or Lexus IS350 when she turned 16. She is rather proper and absolutely is in a sorority (about 66% of Vandy women are in them).

She talks a lot on her cell phone and probably text messages like crazy. She wears designer clothes and spends 1-2 hours each day working on the way she looks. She runs around campus (while still looking amazing in those cute pastelle-colored running shorts) or is on the elliptical at the Rec Center five times per week, likely while reading Cosmo or Glamour. She wears jewelry at all times, especially pearls (if they’re in season).

She takes a lot of pride in her appearance, but also takes pains not to make it seem so in public. She is polite, socially confidant, chatty and has a pretty smile. She doesn’t take herself too seriously, and knows when to laugh.

She takes her academics very seriously. VERY SERIOUSLY. She is very attentive in class, takes copious notes, and makes sure to show up on time. She spends several hours each day reading, studying or working on homework, and many more on the weekends. Studying takes up most of her time, in fact. However, she likes to study in the dorm study lounges, at Starbucks (we have one on campus and a total of 5 within a four-block radius of campus, no joke), in the Sarratt Student Center, or at one of the eateries near campus. Academics is her primary focus, just like all the other Vandy students.

She is really, really pretty. But she’s somewhere between proper and a big party girl. On the weekends, she’ll grab a half-dozen friends and head to any one of the dozens and dozens of bars within a mile or two of campus. She can drink with the best of them, but doesn’t always have to. She isn’t necessarily easy, but enjoys a fun night out with good friends. And she loves to dance, whether it’s with her friends or with the guys.

She might have a bit of an ego, but rarely shows it. She enjoys her life, likes to have fun, but can be serious and academic at times.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is the parable of the VandyGirl.

While there are plenty of attractive and possibly smart/fun/out-going girls at other schools (particularly big state schools), the concentration of these types of ladies at Vanderbilt is unparalleled. No kidding. There are very few unattractive or over-weight girls at school, and everyone places a premium on taking care of themselves, so this school IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. Many girls will likely not fit in, or may feel overwhelmed, and most feel pressured to join a sorority to feel accepted.

For the fellows, however, the daily strolls through campus (especially between classes and during meal times) are amazing with beautiful scenery everywhere. The campus is pretty, too.
