<p>bksfan, Yes, as a parent I was leaning toward GMU which I perceive as safer. As a student I loved downtown Richmond though. It is not “inner city.” It’s some of the more expensive real estate in Richmond. It’s “downtown.” I know their newish campus police chief and he has made some innovative changes to campus safety. Ultimately it’s my son’s decision next year though. </p>

<p>I was looking at VCU’s merit aid and my son has scores and grades that would probably qualify for merit aid. I think he’d get it at GMU also but it’s not really a requirement for us.</p>
