<p>My dog, Crazy Sally, has been skunked and quilled (a $265 walk in the woods?!). She chases the chickens if she gets a chance, and had killed one by picking it up after chasing it. (I think it had a heart attack.) So she no longer gets to walk in woods very much, and no longer gets to go out off leash if the chickens are out. </p>
<p>Unfortunately, she failed to kill the rooster, but she did chase him across the road and rip out all of his tail feathers. (I later had a man from a Chinese restaurant come and take him away after he attacked me one time too many. )</p>
<p>I am so sorry 2mules. How frightening. Lucky your mother came by when she did. We had a fire a few years ago…we wereh aving some work done on our house ( our dear friend ) he hit a wire and it sparked, He thought he caught it , but it ignited a drop cloth in my daughter’s closet. Luckliy , our nanny was home ,as well as a few workers whose quick thinking doused the fire. A lot of smoke, lost our bathtub when the dropcloth was put here to be doused. My daughter lost some of her things, but all in all we were lucky.</p>
<p>Why can’t my pointer understand that that possum he’s so proud of in his mouth, that he wants to bring into the house to show me, is just playing possum? Hence the phrase? </p>
<p>I have used Nature’s Miracle skunk odor remover and was pleased with it. Even works for the lovely scent of your dog rolling in deer carcass ( yes, I said that . ewwww) I happen to live near woods and the dog could always find something dead to roll in or else deer poop was good enough for him. They have an odd idea about what smells good. </p>

<p>The in laws small dog made it up to the stove top (island) in mad pursuit of goodies, but managed to turn on burners and it required all new counter tops.</p>
<p>Deer carcass - OMG! Just a small dead rat was enough to odorize our dog to the point we could not stand next to him - he probably thought it was Chanel number five. I washed the dog, but he still stunk (think wet dog smell mixed with some putrid rat scent -ewwww). Only wiping the dog with a paper towel dipped in dilute solution of rubbing alcohol did the trick. The rubbing alcohol kills the odor-producing bacteria on the surface of dog’s fur, but you have to be careful not to get it onto the bare skin or into the eyes.</p>
<p>coureur, yes it was 847 quills. My dog, Chewy, grabbed the porcupine at the throat and thrashed it back and forth multiple times. Amazingly, there were still many quills left on the porcupine. Chewy was so messed up by the quills that were all over his chest, paws, face, mouth, gums and down his throat that he wouldn’t stay still and couldn’t be held down, hence the anesthesia. We were fortunate that none went into his eyes.</p>
<p>We had to hold him down for an hour waiting for the vet to get back from innoculating some cattle. The vet had never seen anything like it before, even though she regularly got dog patients that had a few quills stuck in them.</p>
<p>Yeah, it’s a good thing our dog was so cute and loveable, 'cause he could sure be gross sometimes!! It’s amazing what they will do.
I’d give anything to have him back now, even stinky
He passed away about a year and a half ago and I miss him everyday. But I have another here still ( with doggy dementia) so he keeps my hands full. LOL That is a whole other challenge!</p>
<p>PA Mom: I’m sorry about the loss of your dog. It’s so tough to lose them. Our dear Chewy died 3 1/2 years ago, and I still miss him enormously. Like other dogs mentioned in this thread, he too was fascinated with dead animals. Guess it’s a dog thing. He stopped, dropped and rolled in a dead sheep while we were on a backpacking trip. What a smelly pain!</p>
<p>No skunks, but came home today to find that the dog had runny pooped all over the utility room - and I mean, all over. I put him outside and headed upstairs and opened some windows, then called DH. He knows what he has to look forward to when he gets home today; his dog, his dog cleanup job :eek: poor hubby, but I don’t have the stomach to clean it up!</p>
<p>Our old dog loved stinky smells and could never resist a skunk. I, too, used a bit of beach in water. He was mostly white so he looked so fresh and clean after a skunk cleansing unlike his serving wench who had to scrub him in his bath. Oh, how I miss that dog!</p>
<p>Wish I could teach my dog to go after gophers. Instead, he brings home poor innocent little baby bunnies. Fortunately, they are always still alive, so we rescue them and send them on their way. We have skunks here too, and he has never gotten skunked yet, so maybe he’s smarter than I give him credit for being.</p>
<p>anxiousmom…our dog is my husband’s dog, yet if I don’t clean up after whatever she has done , it won’t get cleaned up. she is a tampon and cat poop eater…not ideal for the digestive system…inevitably, she WILL hurl it up at some point and everyone will just walk away …grrrrrrrrrr.
This morning, my husband let her out to our fenced in backyard…I had a lot of errands to run and spent a few hours working in our office. When I came home, she was still outside and wet from the rain.
All pet responsiblities and care fall squarely on my shoulders.</p>
<p>I am assuming that everyone has read the Marley and Me book? (There is a cleaned up version for the elementary/middle school set) We watched the trailer online for the movie coming out in December. I hope it is even half as funny as the book.</p>
<p>P.S. The music room is right next to the kitchen. The harp was covered so it should be pretty clean. The baby grand was open. Can I just vacuum it out with the brush end of the vacuum hose or should I call the tuner and get advice? Thanks.</p>
<p>Mr Skunk dog at our house also loves to roll in dead things. Not much of a problem at our house but he usually finds something when we take him to my inlaws who live on 40 acres.
The smell is not as bad today. The thing that still stinks is his shock collar. He tends to roam the neighborhood so we have an electric fence system. I soaked the collar in the peroxide, baking soda mix. I also tried wiping it down with vinegar. Any ideas? I guess I could try bleach. The color is black but it really doesn’t matter if it gets lightened.
I am just hoping this is not the first of the season! I used to pay my D or S $10 to wash a skunked dog. They have decided it isn’t worth the money. Plus they don’t do that great of a job.</p>
