Verizon Wireless - should I file a complaint?

I have had good luck with customer service over Verizon on the telephone. Have even ordered phones online with the customer support person on the phone with me walking me through the process, and was given the direct phone number to call the same person to help set the phones up once they arrived. I have also changed service plans over the phone (as opposed to online or at a store).

Do check your bill carefully every single month. There seems to be some sort of new business philosophy of “throw it on the bill and see if they’ll pay it” out there these days. Every three or four months there’s something fishy to call about, but they do always take it off. Frustrating but there it is.

I have also had the experience of taking in a defective phone (purchased online) to one of the stores for replacement, only to be given a defective replacement three times in a row. Eventually they simply gave me a new model, since clearly the old model was defective (it was a Verizon branded phone and I was finally given a last year’s model Razor - fine with me).

It’s important to be a very squeaky wheel these days - smarmy business practices are not acceptable.

Finally, I have found that they will take advantage of teen agers and college kids - getting a strong, clear headed, persistent adult involved helps to cut through the BS.

BCEagle91 in post ~#14 – I’m happy to tell you this isn’t true:

I have a Verizon Motorola phone and I’m sending photos from it as I write this, completely free of charge and easy.
Go to Media Center
Picture & Video, My Pictures
Find Photo you want to send
Click Options, Click Send
Send Using 2. Bluetooth
Bluetooth Menu (your computer’s Bluetooth function must be on for the phone to find it)
Will search for your computer’s Bluetooth, wait a few seconds
Finds it and stores it on your phone
Click the Bluetooth device you want to send photos to
Phone will ask you “Do you want to send to AnudduhMom’s Computer”
A window pops up on your computer screen, hit Accept
Open Incoming File Transfer
On your HD – there’s your photo!
Free, and it takes about 20 seconds

Also I can email the photos to myself free, but bluetooth is easier.

Re: the poster who mentioned the early-cancellation fee with Verizon. We just did this a couple of weeks ago when S2 switched to the iPhone (at&t). At Best Buy they told us it was $200, but at the Apple store the Verizon early-cancellation was $115. The Apple store told us that verizon’s fee goes down $15 every month of the 2 year contract. I’m not sure why there was a discrepancy, but maybe Best Buy takes a cut?

Anyway, I’d suggest anyone making the switch to iPhone to just go to an Apple store if you can. They know the ins and outs of Verizon, will port your number and do your contract, the roving salesman swipes your card, and off you go in 20 min. with a new iPhone and contract. HOWEVER – if you need to transfer your stored phone numbers or other data from a Verizon phone, you have to go to the Verizon store and pay $10, but they can do it on the spot (with a huge dose of taking-it-personally attitude). I thought the saleswoman was going to break the pins on S2’s new iPhone she jammed the cable in so hard!

Someone posted (sorry, I forget who) that they hope verizon will pick up the iPhone soon. That’s not likely, as Offended Verizon Manager told me. They said they “rejected” the Apple offer, as the iPhone battery is not removable (whatevah).

When we switched from Verizon to AT&T and iPHone, they downloaded the directories from the Verizon phones onto the iPhones at the AT&T store. We bought the iPhones at AT&T store, we added a new family plan # while in a different state (it took the AT&T chap over an hour to arrange it, complicated because of different computer system in originating state, but he persevered until it worked, and this was for a free phone with $9.99 monthly fee…I was impressed with his effort!)

Here’s another vote for employing the “squeaky wheel routine” when you’ve essentially been cheated or mislead by your wireless provider or an authorized re-seller. I tend to believe that most of the problems are with the re-sellers. Whomever. When there’s a problem I go straight to the top, using any online business directory to find out who is the VP for Customer Service or even the CEO. When I found an ongoing extra monthly charge on my bill (my fault, hadn’t noticed it for several months) for a feature I had not ordered or authorized, and when my first phone call to the company led to a dead end, I wrote to the CEO. I got a phone call within one week, an apology and a total refund.

That’s humorous. First, Apple didn’t design a CDMA iPhone, so Verizon had nothing to take or reject. Secondly, VZ has a lot more important reasons in selecting a phone than the battery - network load (the iPhone takes up enormous network resources vs Blackberry), revenue share with Apple.

for photos= can’t you just put a digital card in your phone and move the photos to that?
then you can physically carry the data to whatever you want.

I have no love for huge companies however we have been with verizon for about 8 years and while my H company provides discounts to service contracts- he has not been able to set it up ( don’t ask), however when we were getting something fixed while on vacation, recently the tech asked about the discount and told us that as long as he had proof of employment he could set it up right there.
For some reason H brought his Boeing badge to S.F. and we were able to get a huge discount not only on a new phone, but on monthly service.

I have Never, ever been charged by verizon for pictures to be sent to my computer. In fact I do my business with my phone, take pictures, upload them via email to myself and download to my website no charge. I really don’t understand the bad wrap that people are trying to pin on verizon. I have always had great customer service experience. When I call them on the phone, they are always looking to see if my service is streamlined and that I am not paying for duplicated services.
