I go to Pomona, one of the other Claremont Colleges, is she considering applying to any others besides Scripps? Speaking from experience as a Politics major, Pitzer, Pomona and CMC have the best politics departments of the claremont colleges. None of the Claremont College except Harvey Mudd will be super super intense. Everyone here is smart and motivated, but there are so many resources and everyone is very supportive. All my professors are very kind and willing to meet outside class and give extensions when needed. I definitely recommend Scripps but also looking into the other Claremonts. Pomona meets full need.
You said she didn’t want a pressure cooker. Wellesley does have that reputation. Another poster said not to worry about it because she wasn’t even in yet. I think it is a waste of money and time to apply to schools that don’t fit her criteria. That is where this comment is coming from.
It doesn’t matter one bit if the place doesn’t guarantee to meet full need for all students. What matters is if your kid’s need is met. Run the Net Price Calculator at each website. See if there is the possibility that your kid could end up with a workable aid package.
