When comparing Viking to other lines, even the cheapest cabins have a verandah with a table and 2 chairs. No windowless cabins or any with portholes or small rectangular windows. Need to compare apples to apples.
In August we Rhine river cruise on the Uniworld cruise line. I can’t say enough about that cruise line. Service was top notch. We did have to switch boats halfway through the cruise. On the new ship we ended up with a bigger room and a butler. The pre-trip part in Lucerne was awesome.
Viking River boats have rooms below the water line, and a window just at water level.
Yes, that is true about Viking river ships, but this thread is about Viking OCEAN cruises, and I stand by what I said—all cabins on Viking OCEAN ships have verandahs.
I wonder about the insurance, if you cancel, if you do what we did with one trip. We cancelled the trip but switched the insurance onto a different trip (though they didn’t let me lower the amount of insurance). And then we had to cancel that trip, but the insurance paid out fully?
Or if it’s specific Viking insurance, if at least you can swap it to another Viking trip. It was really nice to still be able to use that insurance!
We always buy third party insurance. We had a trip delayed by COVID, from 2020 to 2021 to 2022. Each time the insurance was easily transferred to the new booking.
Same insurance company, a trip was cancelled due to low passenger number. Insurance issued a full refund.
No idea how insurance issued by a travel company works.
We are just finishing our first Viking Ocean cruise Mediterranean and Italian Sojourn from Venice to Barcelona with pre cruise in Tuscany and post in Madrid. We liked it a lot. The ship is very nice and the food is excellent. The Viking ships have only around 900 so not real crowded. We did a combination of included and extra excursions. I joined a Facebook group for that specific itinerary so had a lot of recommendations to work with. We thought the excursions were well done. The rooms all have verandas which was nice. The food was good and there is no charge for the special restaurants. The included wine and beer were fine. I probably scheduled us too much so we stayed on ship in Sete instead of during the included tour. I liked Holland America better for laundry since you sent it out but you have a laundry room on each deck which used 2x.
The included excursion in Sete was our least favorite of our cruise. It was a good one to miss in my opinion.
Every time I went to the self service laundry, every washer was full and I didn’t want to spend my vacation time doing laundry. I had the ship do it, they had a laundry bag you can fill for I think it was $60. I had shipboard credit, felt that it was a good use of that.
