They weren’t my everyday pattern, but someone gave me a Villeroy and Boch large souffl

I also seem to have a dessert set with coffee pot/tea pot in the villeroy and boch blue onion pattern. I think they made it when meissen ended up in east germany.

If I were looking for something like this right now, I would go out to a mess of estate sales (not garage sales!) and just buy a big set of something. I’ve seen the Franciscan stuff several times, as well as a number of other large sets of fairly non-descript but decent stoneware, china sets, etc.

Betting with a bit of searching I could net a set of something I would be reasonably happy with within a month :)

I have a set for 10 of Amapola, and 12 of French Country Garden. I’ve had the Amapola for at least 25 years, and it’s still my favorite. It has been discontinued, but you can find individual pieces on ebay sometimes for a bargain. They are both workhorses, as I have used them as everyday china even when my kids were babies, but it’s also pretty enough for company.
The way this porcelain feels in your hand is what I love about it. The raised pattern is beautiful.

Since I am fulltime in a camper, Corningware is the choice. Pattern is plain white with blue bands. After two years every piece is just like new.

I recently spent some time with rich relatives who use VERY expensive Heath stoneware for everyday use. I kept thinking that if the Corningware was extremely expensive it would have snob appeal and they woud be using it.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like Villeroy and Boch makes a quality product.

moonchild, I have Amapola, as well. It was the pattern I registered for when I got married over 25 years ago and I just love it. I even have some cookware with the same pattern.

We have the Catalina pattern that we use as back up to our everyday dishes. They are 20 years old. We get a ton of compliments on them.

We are using a set of Royal Doulton porcelain china for our everyday dishes. We have used Pzaltgraph and Oneida in the past and they just chipped and chipped. This Royal Doulton is a plain white, and we’ve been using it for ten years without one chip. They were one of many sets of dishes my mom left us when she died. I figured they were better being used than sitting in a box. I’m sure glad we are using them!

It has always been on my coulda/shoulda list!

I always buy the china.
Even if it is Lenox Eternal, which is NOT MY TASTE at all. :D

My favorite pattern is Minton Green Cockatrice.

ellebud, I’m happy to come for dinner and bring my own chair. :)

Franciscan pottery used to be in Glendale but was bought out in the 80’s I think and they moved production to England, of all places. I was rather an obsessive collector of another Franciscan pattern, Coronado, produced in the 30’s-50’s and now have hundreds of pieces, in all colors, including a mad amount of serving ware and vases in the oddest shapes and sizes.

Next stop, eBay, to sell some of it. I do not have the chairs or the nerves-of-steel to entertain crowds of hundreds. ;)

Years ago, in the early 80s, my brother was stationed in Germany (in the US Air force). We visited them and while there visited V&B outlets. I fell in love with the pattern Baurn Blume and also Bon Appetite (sometimes called Appetitio). Neither of these are availablein the US. My sister-in-law would go to the outlets and send us pieces that she’d gotten, so I have a small-ish set of the Baurn Blume, but I use the larger set of appetito (Bon Appetite) china for everyday. My mom also collected it, and I got hers when she passed away, so I have quite a bit. I REALLY would love to have a set of their large mugs, but the price on them on Replacements is something like $80 EACH, so no mugs for me. :(

If you run into someone who has those mugs, though, and wants to find them a good home, let me know! Here is the pattern…

Churchmusicmom – keep checking ebay. You never know what you can find there for your unusual pattern – which is lovely, by the way.

I would love to purchase the Lenox pattern Rutledge for an Easter pattern. I just love it, but with 8+ sets of china, my husband would divorce me if I bought more. Then, I would have to move to a smaller living space, and would have no room for all of my dishes.

I have Johnson Brothers Summer Chintz everyday china. I found it on sale for $109 for 12 place settings. Yes, some of it is chipped, but it isn’t too bad. When we lived in England I replaced some of the bad pieces, and the rest of the chips I ignore.

Years ago I found some Spode 6" and 8" plates at the pottery outlets in Williamsburg. The were less than $1.00 each. We use them everyday. I have had them over 20 years, and only a couple of them have chips, if any. I wish I could have gotten a whole set of them, but they had been discontinued. I think that they were seconds, too.

I started my married life thinking that I would need to change my everyday china about every 7 years. I have had the Summer Chintz over 20, and will have it for the rest of my life. I just need to decide what to do with the other 7+ sets.

Madbean/Consolation. : you are always welcome in our home. Consolation…I am going to look up your favorite pattern.

I have found replacements.com expensive. I go to Ebay and look/sign up for alerts. There is a Reynaud pattern that I adore…Vieux Chine. I love it. Along with Eugenie I wish that I have those. When we were in Paris last year, as we walked along…just walking…I saw the Villeroy store AND a Limoges store. My pattern (from when we got married) has been retired. I asked if they ever to make it…how much would it be?

The saleswoman was lovely. They do, in fact have warehoused many retired patterns. She was willing to contact the factory…cost was a factor. A five piece place setting would be around $2,000, Tuition or china? China…or tuition.

Tuition won.

Consolation: I just looked up the pattern. I have a few pieces of it from a friend of my mother. She would send me some cups and saucers over the years…it is GORgeous…and elegant.

My mom had the Riviera pattern. She loved it.

Moonchild and Patsmom, I also am still using my original Amapola pattern service for 12 that was new when we registered for it 31 years ago–I have replaced a few pieces over the years, mostly from replacements.ltd. There are very few chips and I still love it. I recall that it was very expensive at the time for everyday china, but at the time I was dating my now-husband, I had taken advantage of a deal that our local department store offered–you could buy a service for 8 of the china and pay 50 dollars a month for a year at no interest. When we got engaged, I just registered for the remaining 4 place settings.

Lately I have been tempted to buy something altogether new, and I’ve looked at the Juliska Berry & Thread pattern, but two negatives–TONS of young people seem to be registering for this, and the plates themselves are very heavy.

I use this Villeroy and Boch pattern for every day and some entertaining, augmented with white and yellow side dishes. It’s very flexible because the pattern is on a pure white background so you can mix and match with other dishes easily. Sometimes I get sick of it and stop using it for awhile, though. Especially in the winter, which is when I get out my mom’s wonderful set of Friendly Village (made in England, not the new junk from China). That has a cream background so harder to fold in other patterns. But the autumn and winter scenes are very dear. Love them.

This is the V-B I use (have several friends who also have it):
[Villeroy & Boch Dinnerware, French Garden Collection - Villeroy & Boch - Dining & Entertaining - Macy’s](http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/villeroy-boch-dinnerware-french-garden-collection?ID=19963&CategoryID=8383#fn=sp%3D1%26spc%3D78%26ruleId%3D54%26slotId%3D7)

Several years ago I bought a lot of V/B Audun - 12 each of dinner plates, salad plates, bread and butter plates, fruit bowls, soup plates, cereal/rice bowls, mugs, in a mix of the 3 different patterns. The yellow borders of the dinner plates are completely ruined by gray marks; they look absolutely awful. I clean them periodically with baking soda or Bartender’s Friend, but they don’t come out completely and they always come right back. The other pieces have the gray marks, too, but they don’t show up as much on the salad plates with the black and white pattern on the rims.

I understand that these are marks from stainless flatware, but my flatware is also V/B (French Garden). I was so frustrated that I emailed V/B customer service a couple of weeks ago, and I received a very nice reply from someone who asked me to send photos. I haven’t had time to do it yet.

I’ve never had a set of more than 4 place settings of something I picked out. By the time I had money again to buy more pieces, it would be discontinued.

My sister with the multiple patterns, uses Portmeirion Botanical Garden as her everyday dishes & has all kinds of pieces, but it reminds me of Corelle which I don’t like the feel of.
I am looking for something that will work with my redecorating- ( which i am just beginning)leaning toward white & blue- I like majolica, except I bet it isn’t sturdy.

I also like this pattern which would coordinate but at $56 for a dinner plate its not in my price range.

I think I may just check out estate sales.
