Virginia Budget Debacle: Rest Areas

When I first came to Ohio in the 70s, some of the rest stops were still OUTHOUSES. Literally. It was sort of embarassing.

I’m glad they updated them to nice facilities, but the one-holers were probably cheaper to maintain!

As a native Virginian, I’m so angry about this I can barely hold it in. I’m bursting with indignation. I’m hopping mad. The incontinent–I mean incompetent–fools who made this decision must go!

maybe not.

maybe so.

if 1 or 2, depends on the moon.

VA highway litter pickup crews will see a sharp spike in the number of Pepsi and Coke bottles filled with yellow liquid…

I recently learned that these are called “trucker bombs.”

Considering that a highly frequented rest stop on I-95 was just recently re-opended (that is, they tore down the old building and built a new one), this is a very sore subject to us Virginians. I think that those in office hope it might offset, in a very small way, the skyrocketing costs of the IT scandal going on in our beautiful commonwealth at the moment.

I like and respect Tim Kaine, his son and mine were at HS together and he is a real regular guy, no airs or pretenses whatsoever, drives a pick-up truck and is very approachable. I think he has inherited a mess (VA has a one term limit on its governorship) and with the current economic issues, all cost-saving measures need to be utilized. The rest stops will be re-opened, it just may not happen in 2009.
