Virginia Tech Honors or Rutgers New Brunswick Honors?

Is it Boston ? I would take that if cost is close

Yes Boston. But he is not sure about co-op.

Any insights on Rutgers vs. UMD?

With out considering the cost aspect, small / big town, (like OOS etc). Would you guys rank VT ahead of Rutgers - just considering the academic program, internships and job opportunities from that college(like campus interviews or alums connection)?

I’ve been researching because VT is one of our options as well as Rutgers and the internships and opportunities look similar for my daughter. Ranking the two for us would be difficult. They feel like 2 very different schools to us.

It’s getting even more complicated for us and DS also got into Purdue and Northeastern! Now, we need to figure out a proper pro/cons list.

Congratulations ! :tada:
Wow, those are tough admits!
If you share your list of pros/cons, deal breakers, etc.
You can also calculate
(tuition, fees, room, board) - (scholarships, grants)=
And see if net cost is affordable or even -$
(below budget by $x) for each.

Will do. Thanks!

Thank you!

We have VT Honors, Rutgers Honors & Northeastern as our top 3 options! Northeastern looks the best from prestige perspective but I think the college visits in the next 2 weeks will help make the decision.

We visited Rutgers NB today, and my daughter is leaning towards UMD. Interestingly, she said Rutgers NB reminded her a lot GMU. The area reminded her a lot of Virginia. She also didn’t like the bus tour, and the 5 separate campuses. She said she’d want to go there if the family lived closer, but she felt homesick being there. She thinks the stress of the bus and feeling homesick might make it hard for her to maintain her GPA for graduate school. We’re going to sit on the decision for awhile since we have time, but it would be interesting to see what you think after your visit.

Interesting. Why do you say that?

@blossom, given your extensive hiring expertise, what is your view?

I say that just based on the admission rate. 5.6% of the applicants admitted for NU!

Ah! There are several well known reasons for that low rate but I won’t go into that. It’s a very good school, no doubt. But if you’re comparing prestige I think you should look at more than the acceptance rate.

You are right. I think all of these colleges have a lot going for them. The admissions rate is only one of the stats and often misleading as some of these colleges get insane number of applicants.

Between the choices we have, which will you consider as best fit for a CS major? @DadOfJerseyGirl

My opinion
the one your student likes the best.

I agree. All 3 are very good schools but are different in their own way. Your student should look deeper at the pros and cons of each and then decide.

Hello. Sorry I missed responding to you.

DS has good grades (4.37 GPA), many APs, varsity marching band, varsity & National chess player, CEO of a non profit and has donated over $15K since COVID for multiple charities, got a proclamation from the mayor for his charitable work etc.

(His credentials are impressive & IMO his story and essays were great too but he didn’t get through any ivies which was a bummer).

Good Luck to your kid/s for the Rutgers Honors program.
