virus or food poisoning?

Snowball- do you live in New England? Cause it’s going around…

Don’t know why this notion is so persistent. You most certainly can have a fever with food poisoning. It doesn’t necessarily mean that “something else” is going on.

Certainly a very high fever should signal the need for medical treatment.

In my experience in the medical field, food poisoning caused by bacterial contamination ***in general ***tends to be more serious than your garden variety stomach viruses and can be of longer duration. However, one can become dangerously dehydrated with a stomach virus, particularly if the patient is elderly, very young, or has other serious health issues.

Also, stomach viruses can be traced to food if the food handler was infected and/or did not follow proper procedure while preparing food. In this case, it would be both food poisoning as well as a stomach virus.

Don’t know where you live, but in our area there is a nasty GI virus going around. My husband was hospitalized with it for a week last month, and has been back in again since Wednesday. The GI doc says he’s never seen so many people this sick so early in the winter time.

I just have to believe, or maybe just want to believe, if this is food poisoning then more of us should be sick. No new victims today, but if it is indeed a virus, the rest of us might fall soon! If I don’t get it from my two and the clean up I have done after them, I bet the others will be safe. Seven sick of the 25 that ate dinner, no illness in those that just came for dessert, fever and vomiting gone in less than 24 hours, although the aching body is still around for those that had it.

My SIL called to say her husband was sick, but his problem was constipation; he had a colonoscopy on Tuesday! I told he he doesn’t count in my holiday victims ;)

Its that time of year again where I recommend a holiday purchase for the Santa and family: The Bidet seat.

No new victims today; hopefully the second round will not arrive!

One of my relatives that did not get sick, found out a coworker had 3 of 10 Thanksgiving guess sick this weekend with the same symptoms. Two of the people ended up at the ER for IV fluids, one being an elderly man. The ER doc said it was a respiratory virus and the ER was slammed with people with the same thing. My mother is breathing easier knowing that she didn’t make everyone sick!

My daughter is currently flying home today and still doesn’t feel great, but is up and about. She knows she needs to keep drinking as she really hasn’t had much to eat. Of course her plane sat on the runway for an hour before take off; I am sure she has now infected the entire plane, probably how she got it to begin with on her way home last week ;)
