Visit: where to stay, what to do?

Place to stay: might be a little harder to handle without a car. The Glidden House is right on campus and might be a good choice for that reason. I’m pretty sure that the hospitals close to the Cleveland Clinic would also be reasonable in their proximity to public transportation (although I don’t know for sure…my family always drives when they come to Cleveland and tend to stay at hotels further from campus).

Things to do: Cleveland has a lot to offer. Consider seeing an orchestra performance in Severance Hall (right on campus). Heading downtown to the Rock Hall of Fame, Science Center, etc is something that’s neat to do and helps give a good feel of the city. I haven’t had a car, and really haven’t had much need for one, because of how great the public transportation is. If the city isn’t your thing (and if the weather is decent) I would suggest renting a car and heading to the MetroParks (or further south to the Cuyahoga national park)…it’s great to see so many parks in a city like Cleveland.

Good student-type food: For this I would recommend heading up to Coventry or taking a walk through Little Italy. Case runs a shuttle bus that goes to Coventry in the evenings. It’s a nice place that many students go on weekends to grab something to eat (Resturaunts include: Chipotle, Que Tal, Mongolian BBQ, sub shops, pizza, Winking Lizard, etc). Little Italy is within a 5 minute walk from campus and has quite a variety of italian resturaunts; Mama Santa’s pizza seems to be the favorite.

Public Transportation: Check out <a href=“Homepage | rideRTA.com”>Homepage | rideRTA.com; ahead of time to get familiar with the routes and fare choices. Students at Case do get an unlimited RTA pass each semester, so it is an excellent way to get around. There is a train route that has 2 stops on Case’s campus (also stops at a mall, and eventually ends at the airport). I’ve used the train to get to the airport many times, and it’s probably easier than the drive would be :-)
