I got my decision today:
WAITLISTED (and somewhat baffled)

GPA: 4.0/4.0
SAT: 2300 (750M, 770CR, 780W)
ACT: 36 (36M, 36E, 35W, 35S)

Courses:
Hardest my school offers and all honors. (My school offers 7 APs.)
5 APs (+3 APs senior year), two of which I took online; scored four 5’s, one 4 (on one of the online APs).
Two college classes (Organic Chemistry and English Composition)
A’s in all classes

Extracurriculars:
Captain and Co-Captain of two academic teams, one of which was a state champion two years ago.
Finalist/winner of a few piano competitions.
Orchestra section leader and VP.
JV Tennis two years.

Also (some of this may not matter):
I am an Asian out of state student.
I applied for (and was rejected from) the Medical Scholars program.
I self-reported my grades on SOLAR instead of sending an official transcript.
My high school generally has a less than stellar reputation.

I think that my Common App essay was pretty good. Or at least it wasn’t bad enough to prevent me from getting me waitlisted at UChicago and a couple of other schools of similar selectivity.
