<p>It’s not the “top X of Y” because schools like Reed are “crafting a class” and the list isn’t ranked. So if a school ends up needing, e.g., another left-handed oboe-playing quarterback from Switzerland, the closest match is sought on the list and the call is made. That’s my theory, anyway.</p>
