<p>The issue is that people are more likely to be honest in their evaluations of you if you waive the opportunity to walk into the college’s admissions office and demand to see the letters. By law, you have that right. You give it up so that colleges will trust your recommenders’ statements.</p>
<p>Please note the waiver does not mean that you cannot see the letters. A recommender can still voluntarily give them to you for your review, comments, or records. </p>
<p>You simply cannot demand to see them as a matter of right.</p>
