How did you reach that conclusion?
So Wake Forest is an R2 research university, not an R1. R2s are still important research universities, but they definitionally have not devoted as many resources to research programs as R1s. This tends to be reflected in their graduate programs as well.
But of course when choosing an undergrad program, it is not necessarily bad to choose a more undergrad focused institution. There are possible pros and cons either way, but some people like colleges where resources for undergrads are an institutional priority, where the faculty has a culture of prioritizing undergrad teaching, and so on.
Of course if this is not a priority for some individual kid, or if Wake is not comfortably affordable for them and their family, then obviously it is fine to look elsewhere. But for kids and families who value institutions like this, and can afford Wake, I don’t think it is overrated, I think it is properly rated as a very good example of that type of institution.
You are right about full pay. Looks like only 26% get any need aid but they have athletic scholarships too.
I have no statement on the quality of Wake but it’s a very well reputed school.
