Wal-Mart is a disgrace to America

Attention Wal-Mart shoppers, come on by to the CAFE and buy a icee. Only a $1.99!

Ford made the pinto, not geo.

Uhh, ford never made the pinto. Thats why its called the “geo pinto”

No…

http://www.fordpinto.com/

My apologies…for years, I thought Ford made the Pinto. I must admit, the Pinto is one mighty fine vehicle.

“But anytime you see something said “made in china” think of the hard working people that make that item. Don’t shop at Wal-mart or Sam’s Club bc Wal-Mart owns Sam’s Club…arrgh I’m so mad”

I understand where you are coming from, but why are you just angry at Wal-Mart for selling stuff that is made under terrible conditions in China? Lots of stores sell stuff that is made in China, not just Wal-Mart.

Almost any article of clothing that you wear was probably made in a sweat shop by a young child in India. Wal-Mart purchases their products from where it is cheapest. A true businessman tries to find the cheapest product for the highest yielding profit.

<<…most companies don’t give many benefits to part-time workers.>>

Starbucks does. IKEA does. Target does. Health insurance companies do. I know, because most of my friends w. degrees from top LACs/unis? They work jobs at one of those places on the weekends for the benefits.

Ahhh…Starbucks and its benefits. Excellence. I used to be anti-WalMart when I saw a video my teacher brought. However, after I shopped there for stuff, my hate fizzled down to indifference. :D

Not necessarily true. It depends on the market that the business is in, as well as buyers in the market.

I too am a recovered Wal-Mart hater, bookfreak89. 100 utensils and a sorter for $9!? How can you go wrong?!

It’s amazing that some people here probably took a high school or intro college economics class and think the whole world revolves around theoretical charts. There is such a thing as being a fair and responsible employer by paying living wages to your workers, regardless of the “market rate.” Companies with as much profit as WalMart also have an ethical responsiblity to be fair to their employees, in my (liberal) opinion. In addition, higher wages can lead to increased employee satisfaction and better customer service, which encourages clients to return.

There is also some evidence that WalMart brings down retail wages and harms communities that it enters.

Thanks for posting your objective source. Berkeley is known to be very fair and balanced when it comes to economic matters.

hahaa.

Wal Mart has no responsibility except to deliver a profit to its shareholders.
