I recently replaced my 20 year old Maytag Neptunes with a new mid-high-end Whirlpool set. They’re okay… I think I liked the Neptunes better (before they died), but I don’t have any real complaints. I think the clothes aren’t coming out of the dryer as soft, but my kids say I’m imagining it.
I originally intended to buy a plain old top loader with no bells and whistles, because of budget constraints. But it seems like most of the top loaders these days are “high efficiency”, using very little water and no agitator. There are so many reviews saying that loads have to be washed multiple times to get clean! So I paid a little more to get a front loader, even though I hate battling that mold-on-the-rubber-seal issue.
Found an "old style’ speed queen, thanks to this thread. Oh my goodness, I love it. No silly beep-boop-beep, no locked lid, no super slow, takes 4 hours ch-ch-ch-ch of the drum barely moving. Nope, it’s like a 30 year old style, which is wonderful!
@wis75 , we have had our front-loader in the main traffic lane through the laundry room to the garage for 20+ years. And we still can’t leave the da@* door open enough to not get stinky.
Love my new SpeedQueen, thanks to this thread I knew to find 2017 models. Toss my clothes in and start the load, what? Need to add an item, no big deal, it’s not locked. Oh, and it’s done quickly. And no inane beep beep tones.
@scualum I’ve been really happy with my Speed Queens. I thought of you recently as I drove through Paso. Also as the news this past week was giving all the weather temps. It’s been hot!
@mom60 I really need to get over to the renovations thread and post an update. Things are simply flying along. We have been out of town at our son’s wedding in NC - which was hot and humid enough to make me wish I was in Paso!!
Late to this thread. I bought a new 2017 Speed Queen top-loading washer and front-loading dryer this past February. Very very happy with them. Not too many bells and whistles, which IME always break – just solid, quiet, quick and efficient.
