Travelzoo sent out a deal today for $99 and up, at 1 Washington Circle Hotel. I tried to copy the link below.
It says it’s 2 blocks from metro.
@1214mom That looks like a great deal. That’s a good location. I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn nearby on 22nd and M a couple of years ago that is a couple of blocks away from this hotel… Rasika West End is very near there and you can walk to Georgetown from there . Not too far from some of the monuments and museums .
@1214mom Good deal. Tempted to do book a staycation there for a weekend with dd.
Travel zoo deal shows no rooms available for our dates! Appreciate all the info. I really need to just sit down and get this booking done- I will - soon!
Don’t know your dates…but if it’s Columbus Day weekend, I would look sooner than later. Many schools on this coast have a long weekend the weekend of October 8, 9, 10…and take advantage of the time to visit DC.
Have a wonderful trip. It sounds like a lot of fun!!
When we went on vacation a few weeks ago, I booked my hotel through Hilton a month or two before the date and kept an eye on it and surrounding hotel deals. I re-booked it once more and cancelled the first booking when the price went down. You could do something similar using hotwire or priceline as your back-up and pulling the trigger on that in September. I think setting up an alert with travelzoo and jetsetter is a good idea too. I like both of those sites, because they just show the deals, you aren’t booking through them.
Not familiar with either of those websites…will take a look.
Any comments on this option? Sounds like it might be reopening??? Or renovated? Union Station not the best area?

I saw that one and almost mentioned it. It could be okay . There are trade offs with any of this when price and location are involved And on a popular weekend, prices may continue to go up. If you can book something with 24 hour cancellation type things, you could always book something with a credit card and keep looking, I usually like to just research and be done with it but if you want to keep looking, things may keep coming up .
My son lived in Washington for 10 years and we visited often. This would not be my first choice.
Yes, the thing about NoMa is that it is kind of a transitional area-lots of new stuff going on and being built. There wouldn’t be a lot of stuff near there from a tourist perspective . I’ve never used Airbnb but my kids have. Have you checked there?
Ok, NoMA area is out.
We may just end up booking in Alexandria/Old Town - availability and maybe nice to get out of the busy city for the evenings.
If you end up not finding anything in DC, Old Town Alexandria would be a great choice. I love Alexandria-would stay there before staying/looking in areas of Arlington.
Just be sure to check on Metro’s repair schedule for your dates. You don’t want to be in Alexandria if there will be delays or station closures because of repairs.
We’ll actually be in Alexandria in Oct for a family wedding and are booked at the Embassy Suites Old Town - right across the street from the Metro station. Obviously, we got a good rate that was negotiated for the block of rooms booked. I’m not sure what the rates are like otherwise.
Alexandria is pretty far from BWI, but it is a fun place to be.
Look at the Embassy Suites Washington Convention Center. They occasionally have good rates. It’s just north of Chinatown and you can walk to all the places in Chinatown, Penn Quarter, National Mall, the museums, etc. If you’re going to BWI, it’s not far from Union Station to get to the MARC.
I looked at EVERY Embassy Suites in the area! Either sold out or rates out of my budget - anyway I looked.
BUT, good news - I finally just caved in and booked the Hyatt Place, National Mall. I was finding out that even in the suburbs, while the first night was a decent rate, the second night was like $100 more (Sunday night) - crazy! So even though I paid more than I wanted, we will probably end up saving a bit on the Metro since we will be more in the center of everything and the Hyatt seems to have a very nice free breakfast - so more $$ for us to spend on a nice dinner and bakery stops!
Thanks for all your input CC!!
Congratulations! Sounds great. Have fun!
You are going to be kind of in the NoMa area with the Hyatt Place but should be fine. Just suggest you stick to the main streets at night. Going south on New York Avenue and then turning south on 6th keeps you on main , busy streets, for instance ( and takes you past Newseum and then to the National Mall). The hotel lists 6 local restaurants nearby (but still about a mile away). I’ve been to two of them-Bistro Bis and Sixth Engine-both good. Also, a little farther are Rasika, Zaytinya, and Daikaya Izakaya. Also, very good. Daikaya Izakaya (on the second floor of a ramen shop) is fun for a group- lots of small Japanese plates starting at $2 that can be shared.
Ah,Looks like there are more than one Hyatt Place locations in DC. So, the one south of the National Mall that you have seems like the better location for you. You can still get to lots of places and restaurants by just walking or a quick Uber ride. Always a bonus. Sounds like a great trip. Some of the restaurants I mentioned could still work. There are lots of good, interesting restaurants in Chinatown and Penn Quarter.
