My friend, who is UCLA '14 told me that it is a tradition for incoming students to be Bruin-tized with water from the Inverted Fountain during orientation. She also told me that there’s a legend saying students who have been Bruin-tized should not touch the water again until they graduate… lest they risk ending up spending an extra semester as an undergrad! :O

Is this true, and if so, how “into” the legend are you guys?

Well come on, who does? Who actually believes touching water will cause you to stay another quarter at UCLA? People just play along with it to keep up with school spirit and tradition.

… hopefully not facing the camera trained on the fountain…

And yeah, its a pretty big tradition. I definitely never touched the water between orientation and graduation. During Spring quarter finals week, all the graduating students will be in the fountain after their last final, lounging around and enjoying… beverages of some sort (can’t seem to remember which ;))

I don’t believe it at all. They tell you so many of these pointless myths during orientation you get confused with the real stuff. I don’t lean over to intentionally touch the water but I wont freak out if it touches me either

I haven’t touched it but I always thought it was some bs they made up after they told us all the other stories at orientation were just fake like sid3000 said.

Like he said, I don’t go out of my way to touch the water and I haven’t since orientation, but it’s not a big deal.

My orientation counselor said you can get some weird venereal disease if you’re not careful with the water. I’m more scared of that than an extra semester.
