We are in deep $#!@

Re: Rhode Island - Yes they are underwater. The other day the city of Cranston was told not to flush their toilets.

^^Yikes. Flooding is something we are very familiar with. The damage just a few inches of water can do to one’s house is unbelievable. I’m praying for the NE residents affected by this horrible weather. Yes, of course our whining about fireworks seems ridiculous when there is stuff like floods and earthquakes.

ugh. My sympathies. We had a garbage strike for 101 days last year, going right through the summer months. The only thing I can advise is keep a lot of febreeze around. What a lot of people did during those 101 days was bring it either out to county dumps or bring it to work and dump it into the BFI bins which wasn’t city contracted. I think you could probably put it in bins that aren’t that company when people aren’t looking.

emeraldkity, Waste Management doesn’t operate the transfer stations, so they’ll be open, as will those in Snohomish County. Hopefully an agreement will be reached soon.

I was disappointed to hear that Seattle wouldn’t be having any fireworks shows this year. I’m glad though that people are donating and it’s appearing that we will have fireworks. I do hear that Bill Gates has some nice fireworks though. For the home-type fireworks, two words: Indian Reservations. Even if you don’t buy any, people are always lighting off fireworks there for the two weeks leading up to the 4th.

I am so tired of Seattle area residents thinking Paul Allen or Bill Gates should pony up for any little thing that Seattle residents want.

Hardly.
I *would * like the Gates Foundation( and the Broad foundation) to stay away from Seattle public schools- cause we don’t want charters & we don’t need any more dictates from either " charity" to decide how the schools in Seattle will be.

However, I do think that Paul Allen- who has benefitted from the variances he has pushed through in neighborhoods where he owns property, that benefit his businesses, but lessen the quality of life for the residents, can well afford to spend a few bucks to boost morale of the people in that neighborhood.

But Paul is not a resident of Seattle.

No duh
( if he was- perhaps we would consider him one of us, rather than someone who is playing rich man with the cities institutions- Gates doesn’t live here either, but his kids go to school here)
