We got an Amazon Echo - tips?

“I remember when we used to pick up the neighbor’s cordless phonoe conversations on our baby monitor - yeah, never was that interesting!”

Except when a baby was screaming over the baby monitor and it wasn’t mine! Thank goodness!

Took us a few minutes to sort that out!

@IronMaiden , get an echo, talk like you are a drug lord, then report back when the feds bust down your door.

FYI- while watching season 5 of The Shield, Alexa woke up and said Hi. S and I, confused, replayed the prior scene to figure out what she heard. We did it three times, and she woke and said Hi each time.

The phrase “Relax A*hle” wakes up our Alexa.

Hmmm, interesting things to think about.

My son got me a Dot for Christmas which I am really enjoying. I am using it to try to cope with my insomnia. I have had problems with Alexa ignoring me when I try to give her a command in the middle of a song. I find myself yelling rather loudly. At other times, she can hear if I whisper.

I like listening to the sounds of the rainforest in the middle of winter. Nice & soothing.
Also, it’ll play rock paper scissors.

I use my Alexas constantly (I have the big one and 2 Dots). We have smart bulbs in the kitchen overhead lights and several lamps (they have different colors and dimming levels) and have set up Alexa routines for different activities (“start cooking”, “watch tv”, etc). I also have a group with all of the lights and can say “all off” when I leave home. The timers can be named, so I can have a chicken timer and a rice timer and she tells me which one is going off. I can add events to my Google calendar, messages for friends who also have an Echo, and tell Alexa to wake me up at 6 am. I also use “Alexa, help me sleep” and she suggests different kinds of sounds until she finds one I like. This is just a brief list… I could go on and on
