What about the show that was on a few years ago, about the structural engineer in prison? He committed a crime for the purpose of getting into the same prison as his brother. He got all of the plans for the facility and wanted to help his brother escape. My husband said, “Great, they finally create a show with a structural engineer in it, and he’s a criminal!” Yep, you gotta watch out for us structural types! We’re dangerous.

BBC show “Bang Goes the Theory”. Sort of like mythbusters but more general…as in “what makes things sticky”

@MaineLonghorn, yep the show is called “prison break”. It was one of the reasons why I began looking into structural engineering. There’s an episode where they show Michael’s (the S.eng) working place and it’s just awesome. I got sooo inspired!
I still get the old " oh just like Michael Scofield" response when I tell people I might major in structural engineering. IMO that show made engineers look cool.

2garyable, that’s cool! It IS a neat profession. I love driving around town and pointing out buildings my husband and/or I have worked on. My kids will say, “There’s Mom’s building!”

^^^Wow, that’s awesome. I’ll have to check out that show now. I remember when it was on.

Not a TV show, but I remember the movie Flight Plan, with Jodie Foster, where she was a passenger on a plane that she had actually designed. It was pretty cool.

And what about all the NASA shows? Love seeing behind the scenes of how things worked in the space program.

If you define engineering broadly, as in the application of scientific knowledge to solve everyday problems, then shows like The Walking Dead and McGyver get included.

If not, we still have Office Space.
