I started at a hip company over summer and it’s all open seating no cubes and soft phones w the headset biz and all. Once configured, I couldn’t deal and found I could forward calls to my work cell. So if I have calls, they just go to my cell and that is what I can handle. I can use the earphones to take calls, maybe some day I’ll get a jabra or airpods.
I have a headset that I’ve used for my office phone for 7 years now. It’s only on 1 ear and doesn’t bother me at all. I only put it on when I’m on the phone. We still have physical phones, though. I do get my hair caught in it sometimes!
I don’t have many real conference calls anymore, just zoom-like sessions (usually with video, sometimes not). I use a headset for when I am at the office since it’s an open area with lots of background noise. It’s great having my hands free to type and look up reference info.
Ok, who is going to admit to this…I have been on some 10+ people conference calls that I didn’t need to contribute, and my cordless headphone was “good enough” that I was able to go to bathroom (muted of curse, or I hope it was). TMI.
Not surprised - the guys in my office are always talking on their headsets as they walk into the men’s room…
I don’t know how anyone deals with the open space offices with no cubicles or walls. I have an office with a door and a large window, nothing fancy, but privacy when I want it. When we move, I am supposed to have the same. Absolute deal breaker for me.
