Wedding etiquette

Oh my gosh Mollie, you are SO gorgeous and the dress is just perfect! What a great start to your planning.

Absolutely beautiful gown!!

thanks for sharing! You look beautiful! (Dont let him see it!! )

Figured it was time for an update… Friday is our “minus one year” anniversary! :D

Bridesmaid dresses
We are definitely going to go with [Jim Hjelm](http://www.jimhjelmoccasions.com/teas/index.html) tea-length dresses. We went to a bridal shop on Saturday morning to look at swatches*, and decided to go with “pool” for the taffeta on the dress and “aquamarine” as the contrasting satin color underneath (the colors are not true to what’s on the computer screen – “pool” is a rather bright blue). They can pick any of the dresses that are satin-faced taffeta, satin, soft satin, matte taffeta, or plaid taffeta – lots of choices!

*Adam went along, and while I talked to the sales associate about colors, he wandered around and looked at bridesmaid dresses. I was very touched, because I thought he was picking dresses he liked… turned out later that he was just looking at the pricetags.

Shoes
I have spent the entire weekend looking for a shoe that fits the following criteria:

 1. Kitten heel less than 2 inches. Fiance is somewhat “height-challenged”… plus, who wants to wear 3-inch heels all day anyway? (A lot of people, apparently, given the number of sky-high white heels on the market…) I do want a slight heel, though, since flats don’t have much arch support.
 2. White or ivory. At this point, I think I’d take silver or gold.
 3. Not pointy-toed. Ouch!

Sigh. I feel like I’ve been everywhere: Macy’s, Payless, DSW, eBay, Steve Madden, zappos.com… I am about to buy one of the five zillion perfect pairs I’ve seen with 4-inch heels and saw the heels off!

Other
We are currently in the process of finding a florist and a photographer. I think I may have found a florist who fits both our budget and our taste (miracle of miracles!), but I’m still at a bit of a loss with respect to photography. (Any suggestions from Boston-area CCers?)

As always, stuff that I like/stuff that we’re doing is here.

For photography, find a portrait photographer you like and do the pictures some other time (after the wedding) in the studio. Give out disposable cameras to everyone who’s coming and ask them to take candids. Or ask a friend who’s a hobbyist photographer to take the pictures as your wedding present.

For the shoes, check out this link: http://nymag.com/weddings/listings/shoes/

Check thrift shops for wedding dresses. Four years ago, one of my friends got a beautiful wedding dress for $25 at one.

Can us CC cyber-mothers cry along w/your mother? You’re going to look soooo beautiful! It’s wonderful of you to share all your planning w/us…I love it! As for shoes, if zappos.com “failed you,” you DO have a problem and may want to seriously use that saw on shoe heels! But try Nordstrom…they’re famous for their shoe selection; maybe they’ll have what you seek…

Keep those details (and links to pictures!) coming…it’s such fun reading for us! And know you have a huge cyber fan base out here in CC land!

Just saw your photo for the first time. How lovely. And how very very young. sigh

As a Mother-of-Son only, I am thrilled to hypothetically be part of your once-hypothetical, now apparently very real, wedding.

I have looked at every single one of the photos on your Favorites list, loved your dress on the model and on you, and just generally been thrilled to be part of a wedding plan, even if vicarious and cyber-style.

I had a revelation today about shoes: NO ONE IS GOING TO SEE THEM ANYWAY. (This is what happens when you spend an entire day lusting over [the perfect shoes](http://www.jildorshoes.com/product.cfm/hurl/Glotallulah_White_Satin/PI=32049) that are oh-so-out of the price range.)

So I’m going to get some that I found on zappos, because a) they’re cute, b) they’re $40, and c) fiance made a sad face at me when I tried on 2-inch heels next to him in his dress shoes, so 1-inch heels it is!

I’m so happy to share! That’s the best part about planning a wedding – getting to share it with everybody else.

Pretty!!! Your photos are so cute.

mollie, For my wedding, I actually bought two pair of shoes, one higher heeled pair for the ceremony and one pair of comfortable, lower heeled ones for later on during the reception. You are right that nobody knew the difference either way!

Lovely! Sounds great. Thank you for sharing, for those of us who live vicariously (I’ve often said that my contribution to the human race is to refuse to procreate with the creatans who are attracted to me). :)
