I was married in 1981, and didn’t wear a gown, but a cream silk suit, with a cameo pinned to my high-collared blouse. it was pretty simple, and I’m sure that my husband’s Italian shoes cost more than my suit. When my daughter shared our wedding pic on Facebook for our anniversary, one of her friends said, “Your mom’s badass in that suit!”
But speaking of christening gowns, my Mom made my daughter’s, and it was probably the last thing she ever sewed.
I loved my wedding gown, although it is not really in style now and it wouldn’t be the most flattering style for D (which is a good thing, as you will see when you read the rest of the story). A coworker owned a dry cleaners & cleaned/boxed it for me as my wedding gift. A few years later, I let a cousin wear it … she spilled something all over the front (cola, I think) … said she had it cleaned … gave it to me folded & in plastic. I put it in my cedar chest. After I had kids, I wanted to try it on to prove that I could still wear it (STILL can after 33 years, thank you very much) … and saw the stain. Oh, well. At least it got 2 good wearings (and the cousin’s marriage didn’t last, so I guess karma is a bite).
But as I’ve mentioned here, we found a white bridesmaid’s dress>>>
yes, our niece wore a beautiful white bridesmaid’s dress. It was perfect for her.
